Ligue 1 side interested in signing forgotten Tottenham man who impressed on debut last year

Ligue 1 side interested in signing forgotten Tottenham man who impressed on debut last year.

A Tottenham Hotspur backup goalkeeper has been subject to interest from Ligue 1 side Auxerre, who, according to a report by L’Equipe, have identified the Czech international as a potential loan signing for the ongoing winter transfer window.

They have been looking to bring in options between the sticks this January. And the French side is said to have already approached the Lilywhites for a possible six-month loan deal for the 22-year-old.

Antonin Kinsky has been struggling for minutes this season

Antonin Kinsky has been linked with a Tottenham departure.

Kinsky has only made a couple of appearances donning the Spurs badge this season, and both of those came in cup competitions, as Guglielmo Vicario’s being consistently available means that opportunities coming his way have significantly reduced. However, he made a very impressive debut for the club back in January 2025.

This was very different for the former Slavia Prague goalkeeper last season under Ange Postecoglou, where he found ten appearances under his belt when Vicario was sidelined through injury. And since then, his role at Hotspur Way has been more about covering for Guglielmo Vicario. These consistent appearances on the bench mean that his development has somewhat stalled.

Auxerre are not alone in Kinsky race

Multiple clubs are interested in Antonin Kinsky

Auxerre are looking to bring in a new goalkeeper this winter who has the capacity to come in and immediately compete for that number one spot. And this is where they see Kinsky as someone capable of doing so. And if the transfer does go through, the Czech shot-stopper will be sharing Donovan Leon’s minutes in the French top tier.

And if Tottenham are looking at this from a development perspective, then this move does make a lot of sense. But Auxerre are not alone in their pursuit. Premier League side West Ham have also expressed interest in Kinsky. They have been looking to bring in someone who has the capacity to take over from a struggling Areola and be a known presence at the back, especially given their relegation battle in the English top tier.

Author Opinion

For the Lilywhites, now it is about what to prioritise. Given that if the officials at Hotspur Way do sanction this move, Spurs would be losing an apt backup to Vicario, which is quite risky given his injury history. But then they also have to think about the developmental side of one of their players who has the capacity to become number one at Hotspur Way down the line.

It is to be seen what Tottenham do. But what do you think, should the club prioritise his development and sanction a loan move for Antonin Kinsky? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
