Tottenham could lose out on £325,000-a-week target with final decision hinging on finances

Tottenham are hoping to bolster their attack in the coming months for next season.

Tottenham are finding it difficult to carve out positive results in the Premier League this season. The Lilywhites have won just one of their last six league matches, making it clear that performances have fallen short under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician is also under intense scrutiny for failing to get the best out of his players during the first half of the campaign.

However, it is important to acknowledge that the North Londoners are currently dealing with a severe injury crisis. As a result, Frank has been without three key attackers, with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke all suffering long-term injuries that have kept them sidelined since the start of the season. In that context, placing all the blame on Frank for the team’s attacking shortcomings would be unfair.

Compounding the issue, the remaining attackers in the squad have failed to step up during the first half of the campaign. Summer loanee Randal Kolo Muani has struggled to make an impact, yet to open his account for the Lilywhites in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Mathys Tel has barely featured after slipping down the pecking order at N17 under Thomas Frank.

Tottenham all set to miss out on long-term target Marcus Rashford

It comes as little surprise that Tottenham have been monitoring attacking options as they look to strengthen the squad under Frank. There is a clear need to bring in a versatile forward in the coming months if the Lilywhites are to close the gap on their rivals and lay a solid foundation for next season. Strengthening the attack has emerged as a priority for the North Londoners under the newly formed footballing structure.

Recent reports suggested Spurs had identified £325,000-a-week Barcelona forward Marcus Rashford as a long-term solution to their attacking issues at N17. Due to Barcelona’s financial constraints, it was claimed the club would struggle to sign the England international on a permanent deal in the summer, potentially opening the door for the Lilywhites to make a move.

However, there appears to be a late twist in the transfer saga involving Rashford. According to Fabrizio Romano (via X), Barcelona have already informed the 28-year-old’s camp of their intention to keep him beyond the current season. While the financial details still need to be agreed with his parent club, Manchester United, the La Liga giants are eager to extend his stay, with the forward also keen to remain at the Camp Nou.

Time to look elsewhere?

This development comes as a significant blow for Spurs as they continue their search for a versatile attacker. The Lilywhites may now need to shift their focus to alternative targets as they look to build on last season’s Europa League success. Recent reports have also linked the North London club with Brentford striker Igor Thiago, who could represent an ideal addition given Tottenham’s attacking struggles under Thomas Frank.

Tottenham cannot afford to move slowly in the transfer market if they are serious about closing the gap on their rivals in the coming years. The club must be proactive and provide Thomas Frank with the backing he needs to implement his system effectively. Only then can the Lilywhites begin to compete at the top end of the league table and challenge for major honours.
