The attacker in question is starting to make waves for Tottenham on the left-flank under Thomas Frank.
Tottenham have been busy with outgoings during the first week of the winter transfer window. The Lilywhites are clearly looking to create space for new arrivals as they attempt to turn their Premier League fortunes around under Thomas Frank. Brennan Johnson has already been sold to Crystal Palace, and further movement is expected in the coming weeks as the North Londoners look to overhaul their attacking options.
Another forward linked with a potential exit from N17 is Mathys Tel. The Frenchman joined Spurs on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich last summer after completing a six-month loan spell at the club. He was expected to play an important role under Thomas Frank this season, but the first half of the campaign suggests that the Danish tactician does not fully trust the 20-year-old.

Tel’s omission from the Champions League squad list also raised plenty of eyebrows around N17. To his credit, however, the Frenchman has continued to work hard and has delivered some impressive performances in his limited opportunities this season. His crucial goals against Bournemouth, Manchester United, and Leeds United are clear evidence that the talented attacker possesses quality and has the potential to become a key figure at the club.
Tottenham must keep hold of Mathys Tel for the rest of the campaign
It comes as little surprise that Mathys Tel is considering a move away midway through the season. The Frenchman has barely featured under Thomas Frank at Tottenham, and his lack of regular minutes has become a source of frustration as he looks to strengthen his case for Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad. According to recent reports, the promising attacker is heavily linked with a loan move to Galatasaray.
Seb Stafford-Bloor, however, has urged Spurs to keep hold of Tel for the remainder of the campaign and give him the opportunity to showcase his true potential on a consistent basis. Taking to X, he said,
“Under no circumstances should Mathys Tel be allowed to leave Tottenham on loan. That would be nonsense. Tel has played so little football over the last few years. Show some faith in him, allow him to learn and adapt to a proper competitive environment, and see what he can become.”
The respected journalist has warned Spurs against allowing Mathys Tel to leave on loan during the winter window. He highlighted the fact that the Frenchman has not enjoyed a sustained run of minutes in recent years, making it difficult for him to fully demonstrate his ability. Stafford-Bloor also encouraged the Spurs faithful to be patient with the 20-year-old and give him time to adjust to the demands of Premier League football in order to see his true strengths.
It is fair to suggest that Spurs supporters have been impatient when it comes to Mathys Tel. The Frenchman is still learning his trade under a new manager who does not appear to favour him. Even so, the 20-year-old has impressed in limited game time and has made a strong case to push for a place in the starting eleven during the second half of the season. Furthermore, the ongoing injury crisis at N17 means that parting ways with Tel at this stage may not be the wisest decision for the North London club.
