Tottenham fans will be delighted to have witnessed the latest development on injured star James Maddison.
Tottenham Hotspur suffered two significant setbacks in their already troubled season last week. Rodrigo Bentancur pulled up his hamstring in Spurs’ 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth, and it has since been confirmed that the midfielder will undergo surgery. To make matters worse, Richarlison also sustained a hamstring injury during Tottenham’s FA Cup third-round defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend.
This news comes at a time when Thomas Frank’s team are already struggling for consistency. The north Londoners have endured another torrid Premier League campaign, battling inconsistency and a growing list of injury problems. Dominic Solanke recently returned to action after a long injury layoff, but there are still a couple of players out since last year.
One of those is James Maddison. The Tottenham star ruptured his ACL in a pre-season game against Newcastle United in August in South Korea, which ruled him out for nine months. He has begun his rehabilitation from an ACL injury since December, as the playmaker aims to return to action and help his team in what has been yet another challenging campaign.

James Maddison spotted playing on grass
In an extremely positive update, James Maddison shared a video of himself on his TikTok account with the ball back at his feet. Wearing a replica No.11 shirt of former Tottenham icon Rafael Van der Vaart from the 2011/12 season, the midfielder was spotted doing individual training with the ball. He was working on his dribbling with the ball and feints before shooting with his right foot into any empty net.
The 29-year-old then appeared to dedicate the goal to his Spurs teammate Mohammed Kudus, who is set for a three-month spell out after sustaining a quad injury against Sunderland earlier this month. Maddison then ran over to a chair behind the goal before performing Kudus’ trademark celebration. In a caption on the post – which was shared on TikTok, he said: “My guy Kudus, with chair emoji and white love heart emoji.”
Just looking at Maddison and the video, the player seems to have lost a significant amount of muscle in his knee, and major conditioning and gym work will be required to get back to peak fitness levels for Tottenham. Although it is on the grass that Maddison has shared the update, getting to do this at 100% on the training ground might take a while. It is unlikely to see the English star back in full first-team training before April, but if he shows significant progress in his recovery in the next couple of months, then he might get involved in the final few games of the campaign.
Nonetheless, Spurs fans will undoubtedly be delighted to watch Maddison doing individual training and ball work.
