Tottenham injury update: Potential return dates for Bentancur, Richarlison, Bergvall, Maddison and others

Everything you should know about the return dates and injury timeline of several Tottenham stars.

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury crisis continues to shape their season, with multiple first-team regulars sidelined at a time when results and confidence are already fragile. The latest updates underline just how stretched Thomas Frank’s squad has become (in the face of crisis), particularly through the spine of the team, and why January recruitment has moved from optional to essential. All updates you see are from The Express.

The most serious blow is the loss of Rodrigo Bentancur. The midfielder requires surgery on a hamstring injury sustained late on against Bournemouth and is expected to be out for at least three months. That timeline puts a potential return somewhere around April or early May, meaning Bentancur will miss a significant portion of the Premier League run-in. Given his role as Tottenham’s most consistent midfield presence this season, his absence leaves a major void.

Richarlison is another concern after limping off during the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa with a hamstring problem. Spurs are still assessing the severity of the injury, but there is no confirmed return date at this stage. With his history of muscular issues, there is caution around rushing him back, which could rule him out for several weeks at minimum.

More Absentees!

Mohammed Kudus remains sidelined with a quad injury and is not expected to return until after the March international break. Current projections point towards an April comeback, depriving Spurs of one of their few explosive attackers during a crucial period of the season.

There is more encouraging news defensively, with Destiny Udogie edging closer to a return from a hamstring issue. He has already been back around the matchday squad and could be available as soon as the next Premier League fixture, offering Frank some relief at left back after weeks of disruption.

Lucas Bergvall missed the Villa cup tie after aggravating a groin problem picked up against Bournemouth. His injury is not thought to be long-term, and there is optimism he could be back in contention within the next one or two matches, though his workload will be managed carefully.

Elsewhere, Dejan Kulusevski remains out with a knee issue and does not yet have a firm return date, while James Maddison continues his recovery. The Englishman was recently seen hitting the grass, in a rather positive update that he shared on TikTok. With so many key players unavailable, Spurs’ margin for error has virtually disappeared, and the coming weeks will test whether or not Frank has got it in him to take us past these troubles.
