Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a hamstring injury during Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth.
Thomas Frank and Tottenham Hotspur simply cannot catch a break from injuries.
James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have both missed the entire season with knee injuries, leaving Spurs without vision and creativity. Dominic Solanke recently returned from a long injury layoff, coming off the bench in Tottenham’s 2-1 FA Cup third-round defeat to Aston Villa at home. However, in that game, Richarlison hobbled off after pulling his hamstring in the first half and is facing a spell on the sidelines.
Last week, the north Londoners suffered another big blow when Rodrigo Bentancur went down with a hamstring injury in the 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth. He had to be replaced with Archie Gray in the closing stages of the encounter at the Vitality Stadium, and the fans’ worst fears were confirmed when Thomas Frank admitted it was a “big” injury.

Tottenham confirm Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone hamstring surgery
Tottenham have confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone surgery on a hamstring injury. The central midfielder underwent surgery on his right hamstring on Tuesday morning, and the procedure is understood to have been successful. He is now set to return to Hotspur Way to begin his rehab.
It is believed the Uruguayan international will be out for up to three months, joining Lucas Bergvall and Mohammed Kudus on the sidelines, who also suffered injuries recently.
“We can confirm that Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone surgery on his right hamstring,” Tottenham confirmed on X.
“The Uruguay international midfielder suffered the injury during our Premier League fixture at Bournemouth last week and will now commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff. We’re all with you, Lolo.”
Bentancur has been a key player for Thomas Frank, starting 17 of 20 Premier League games this season. He was a regular fixture in midfield, offering protection to the defence and stability to the side. So, it is another unnecessary setback for Frank, who is under fire following awful performance levels and results in the last couple of months.
Tottenham move quickly to bring in Conor Gallagher
With Bentancur set to miss the majority of the rest of the season, the Hotspur Way chiefs have moved quickly to sort out his replacement. The Lilywhites have agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher, who is set for his medical.
Tottenham hijacked Aston Villa’s move for Gallagher at the 11th hour on Monday, with Frank playing a key role in convincing the midfielder to choose his project at White Hart Lane. The 25-year-old is determined to earn a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, and the regular minutes at Spurs will improve his prospects.
Let’s hope Gallagher turns out to be a valuable addition to Frank’s roster.
