Tottenham are expected to have a busy January transfer window as the club bosses look to back Thomas Frank.
Tottenham Hotspur are set to soon welcome the signings of Souza and Conor Gallagher.
19-year-old Souza from Santos is likely to be the first arrival of the January transfer window for head coach Thomas Frank. He should be joined shortly by Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher after a transfer was agreed on Monday and a medical was completed on Wednesday. And the club has no intention of stopping in the transfer market as they look to back Thomas Frank in the winter transfer window, following a miserable Premier League campaign that currently sees the Lilywhites lie 14th in the table.
The attacking unit is an area Spurs are now planning to address after Brennan Johnson’s sale to Crystal Palace at the start of the month. The need for an attacker has only been heightened by an injury to Mohammed Kudus, who has been ruled out until April with a quad injury.
Tottenham reignite interest in AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche
According to a report from Miguel Delaney of The Independent, Tottenham have reignited their interest in AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche. The north London outfit have a long-standing interest in the 23-year-old, and they are considering making a move for him this month after missing out on his services last summer.
Thomas Frank wanted another creative option in his squad to compensate for the injury absences of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, but the club decided against splashing £47.5 million for Maghnes Akliouche. Having stayed at AS Monaco, the Frenchman has continued to develop at a rapid rate and deliver many outstanding displays- both in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
Delaney adds that Akliouche is viewed as part of the broader transfer strategy at Tottenham, and he could quite easily fit into the next manager’s plans, should Thomas Frank be sacked. As Frank’s future has become uncertain, the Lilywhites may think several times before signing any players in this transfer window. But this does not apply to the Monaco talent, who has bagged three goals and two assists in 16 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
A player who could be at a disadvantage if Akliouche arrives is Randal Kolo Muani. Signed on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, Kolo Muani’s season at Tottenham has been stop-start. A dead leg suffered in September ruled him out for more than a month, before he suffered a jaw fracture in a 2-2 home draw with Manchester United.
As a result, the Frenchman has struggled to make much of an impact and is yet to score a Premier League goal for Tottenham. Delaney claims Kolo Muani could end up back at PSG as his deal hasn’t worked out as expected.
Akliouche would walk straight into Thomas Frank’s XI
Akliouche has predominantly played from the right wing for Monaco in the last two campaigns, but his versatility is highlighted by the fact that he is also capable of acting as a glue between midfield and attack from a central No.10 role too. A technically gifted and tactically astute player, the five-cap France international would bring flair and excitement to the Tottenham fans who have become frustrated after many laboured and dull performances under Frank this season.
The 23-year-old, highly rated across Europe, is a perfect fit for Frank’s style of play and would walk straight into the Spurs first XI to occupy the injured Kudus’ position on the right, if a deal transpires. For now, the north Londoners reviving their interest in Akliouche would be music to the ears of our fans.
