Bayern join Tottenham and four other clubs in race to sign £100m English midfielder

The midfielder in question has been very impressive irrespective of his side’s position in the EPL table.

Tottenham Hotspur has a midfield concern going into this window, which was more so compounded given the injury to Rodrigo Bentancur last weekend. But the chiefs at Hotspur Way wasted no time contemplating the ifs and whys as they hijacked a move to bring England international Conor Gallagher to N17 from under Aston Villa’s noses.

But while the Lilywhites were focusing on one midfielder and getting that deal done, they lost a bit of ground on another priority midfielder.

The North Londoners’ hopes to bring £100m Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson have taken a huge blow as German giants Bayern Munich have entered the race for his signature.

The 23-year-old has emerged as one of the bright players in a struggling Forest campaign. And his antics in the middle of the park at City Ground had got the Lilywhites interested in his signature ahead of the 2026/27 season.

But the reports from Spanish publication Fichajes state that Vincent Kompany & Co. have joined the race. The report goes on to specify that Bayern are already working behind the scenes to try and get a deal done.

Tottenham were never alone in the race for Elliot Anderson

There are a plethora of Premier League clubs vying to move for the former Newcastle United man. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United, as well as Tottenham, have all expressed interest in signing him. But now with Bayern entering the race, the stakes have risen a lot.

Bayern have been ageing and in need of reinforcements in the second phase when the summer comes around, and Kompany sees Anderson as a long-term fit at Allianz Arena.

While they don’t mind waiting this season out to sign him, Bayern are already doing a lot of early groundwork. And this can make the prospects of the North Londoners landing him quite thin.

While the priority at Tottenham right now is to bring in players who can have an impact at Hotspur Way over the short term to ensure that the club can salvage something out of the ongoing campaign, it is also essential to ensure that those incoming players reap massive dividends in the medium and long term.

And about Elliot, all is not over yet. Tottenham still have time to come in for him and lay the groundwork to secure his services in the summer. It would be hard but surely not impossible.

Do you think Tottenham can convince Elliot Anderson to join them over Bayern? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
