Tottenham among other clubs monitoring ‘elite’ £28,000-per-week striker as attacking reinforcements take centre-stage

Tottenham are on the lookout for a new striker in the ongoing transfer window.

A lot has gone wrong for Tottenham in the Premier League in recent months under Thomas Frank. The side have struggled to produce positive results on a consistent basis, while performances across the squad have also dipped. An ongoing injury crisis in the attacking department has further compounded the Danish tactician’s problems, with the Lilywhites failing to find any real rhythm in front of goal.

The North Londoners are now winless in their last three matches across all competitions under Frank. Matters were made worse when Richarlison, the club’s leading goalscorer in all competitions this season, was forced off with a hamstring injury during Spurs’ FA Cup clash against Aston Villa last weekend. The Brazilian had been enjoying an impressive run of form, netting eight goals in the first half of the campaign.

In contrast, Randal Kolo Muani has struggled to make any real impact since joining the Lilywhites on loan from PSG in the summer. The French forward is yet to open his Premier League account and has found it difficult to adapt to the demands of English football. As a result, it seems increasingly unlikely that Spurs will look to secure his services on a permanent basis in the coming months, having seen the striker fail to make his mark at N17.

Tottenham still keeping tabs on Porto star Samu Aghehowa

It is therefore no surprise that Tottenham are exploring options to sign a new striker, either during the January window or next summer. With Richarlison’s future uncertain and Dominic Solanke still working his way back to full match fitness after a long-term injury, the Lilywhites are keen to add depth in attack as Thomas Frank looks to build on last season’s Europa League success.

According to Football.London, Spurs are closely monitoring £28,000-a-week Porto striker Samu Aghehowa as a potential replacement for Richarlison in the second half of the season. The Spaniard has been on the club’s radar for some time after catching the eye with his performances in the Portuguese league. He is also eager to take the next step in his career, with the North Londoners reportedly keen to land him on a permanent deal.

Signing Aghehowa would appear to be a straightforward decision for Tottenham. The forward has already scored 17 goals in 25 appearances this season, consistently demonstrating his goal-scoring ability for Porto. He is also on course to earn a place in Spain’s World Cup squad in the summer, having played a key role for Francesco Farioli’s side this term. One of the standout performers at the Estadio do Dragao, Aghehowa has shown he is ready to embrace a tougher challenge.

Recent reports suggest the Lilywhites are prepared to submit a record-breaking £86m bid for Aghehowa’s signature. This underlines Spurs’ intent in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their attack amid ongoing uncertainty in the final third. Bringing in the 21-year-old as Richarlison’s replacement would represent a clear upgrade, given his immense potential and high ceiling.

A front three consisting of Mohammed Kudus, Samu Aghehowa, and Xavi Simons would undoubtedly excite the Tottenham faithful. It would be a formidable attacking line-up packed with talent and promise. The responsibility now lies with the club to do everything possible to present an attractive offer that could tempt the Spaniard to N17 and give him the opportunity to showcase his ability in the Premier League.
