Tottenham receive transfer snub as €30m target prefers to stay in Spain

Tottenham are determined to bring in attacking reinforcements in the winter as club aims to turn PL fortunes around.

Tottenham are keen to bring in new reinforcements during the ongoing transfer window as the club looks to improve its Premier League fortunes. There is a clear need to sign top-quality players who can slot straight into the starting eleven and make an immediate impact under Thomas Frank’s guidance. With the North Londoners hovering in the bottom half of the table, new arrivals could prove vital in helping them improve during the second half of the campaign.

There are already several glaring issues within the squad that need to be addressed in the coming weeks. Chief among them is the lack of an experienced left-winger. Spurs have struggled to replace Heung-Min Son since the South Korean opted to seek pastures new in the summer. As a result, it is crucial for the Lilywhites to bring in a player of Son’s calibre who can deliver a strong impact for the remainder of the season.

At present, Frank has deployed Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel on the left flank in recent matches. Both players have shown flashes of promise but have struggled to make the position their own under Thomas Frank’s guidance. Odobert and Tel are still young and learning their trade at the top level as they aim to establish themselves as regular starters.

Tottenham all set to miss out on long-term target Marcus Rashford

It comes as little surprise that Tottenham are planning to sign a new winger. Recent reports have linked the Lilywhites with Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford, who had been identified as a long-term solution to their attacking issues at N17. Due to Barcelona’s financial constraints, it was suggested that the La Liga giants could find it difficult to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent deal in the summer, potentially opening the door for Spurs to lure him back to the Premier League.

However, there appears to be a twist in the transfer saga surrounding Rashford’s potential move to Spurs. According to Fabrizio Romano, the England international is set to remain at Barcelona beyond the current season. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said,

“Deco has met with Marcus Rashford’s camp. In the last few days, Barcelona have told the player they want to keep him beyond this season. They want to continue with Marcus. Let’s see if they are going to be able to activate the €30m buy option clause in the summer.”

The journalist added,

“It is not mandatory. Let’s see if they proceed from the technical and financial point of view. But the intention of Barcelona is to continue with Rashford. And I can tell you, the intention of the player is to continue with the club. Rashford wants to stay.”

Barcelona are eager to retain Marcus Rashford beyond this season following his impressive loan spell at Camp Nou. Romano claims that the Blaugrana could look to renegotiate terms with Manchester United in the future, but their preference is to secure the forward on a long-term deal if an agreement can be reached. The player himself is also keen to stay after enjoying a successful stint with the Spanish giants.

As a result, Spurs may now be forced to shift their focus to alternative targets. They have also been linked with a potential move for Manchester City star Omar Marmoush. With the Cityzens having secured Antoine Semenyo on a long-term deal, it remains to be seen how Marmoush fits into Pep Guardiola’s plans at the Etihad Stadium. Signing the Egypt international could benefit the Lilywhites in the long term, given that he is still 26 and possesses the potential to reach the very top in the coming years.
