Tottenham could accelerate the pursuit of a striker after Richarlison’s hamstring injury.
Tottenham Hotspur must accelerate their transfer business after signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.
Thomas Frank has several positions to address in his squad after an underwhelming first part of the campaign that sees Tottenham 14th in the Premier League and out of both domestic cup competitions. The Lilywhites’ attack has been a massive let-down under Thomas Frank, with injuries playing a big part. Injuries to key players James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke have not helped their cause.
As a result, Spurs have experienced problems in both creating and scoring goals. Last week, Frank lost Richarlison to a hamstring injury in the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa. This currently leaves the Danish tactician with Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani as the No.9 options, although the former has just returned from a long-term injury. Kolo Muani is yet to score a Premier League goal after arriving on a season-long loan from PSG last summer, and there is a strong argument to suggest that his style is not suited to the Premier League.

Tottenham scouts watch FC Porto vs. Benfica
It is therefore no surprise that Tottenham are exploring options to sign a new striker, and as per the latest reports, they are closely monitoring FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. The Spanish centre-forward has been on the north London outfit’s radar since 2024 after catching the eye with his performances in FC Porto colours.
One of the standout performers at the Estadio do Dragao, the youngster has already scored 19 goals in 26 appearances this season. Samu Aghehowa has consistently showcased his goal-scoring ability for FC Porto, and he could well earn a spot in the Spanish national team for this summer’s World Cup.
Tottenham’s interest in Aghehowa was further highlighted in midweek. According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola (h/t Sport Witness), Spurs scouts were present to watch FC Porto take on Benfica in the derby on Wednesday evening. From their perspective, the 21-year-old remained a clear focus.
However, Aghehowa failed to impress as he failed to register a shot against Benfica. Yet, his physicality, aerial ability and link-up play were impressive. This is not the first time this season that the Tottenham scouts watched Porto in action. They have done it a few times, and Aghehowa was deemed the likely target on those occasions.

Are Spurs planning a big bid?
Reports from this month suggest Tottenham are ready to smash their transfer record to sign Aghehowa from Porto. They are prepared to submit a record-breaking £86m bid to secure the Spanish international’s signature, underlining their intent to back Frank in the transfer market.
Aghehowa certainly possesses the presence and goalscoring ability to transform the Lilywhites’ misfiring attack, whilst becoming Richarlison’s long-term replacement. That said, there are obvious complications. There are doubts that Porto would sell their prized asset midway through the season as they challenge for the league title.
For Spurs, patience will be key. If Porto’s stance softens, this could be a deal that finally moves after last couple of years of speculation.
