(Photo) Veteran defender carried off on stretcher as Tottenham’s injury woes deepen

The Tottenham defender suffered a serious injury vs. West Ham at home.

West Ham’s dramatic stoppage-time victory over Tottenham Hotspur has left Thomas Frank with more questions to answer.

On an afternoon where Spurs supporters were hoping their side would turn a corner, there was the familiar chorus of boos at full-time after Callum Wilson struck in the 93rd minute to seal a first victory for West Ham in 11 Premier League games. The visitors held a deserved half-time lead thanks to Crysencio Summerville’s 15th-minute opener.

Thomas Frank’s side lacked guile and invention to unlock a stubborn West Ham defence, but after a dismal first 45 minutes, Cristian Romero’s bullet header in the 64th minute offered hope. However, Wilson’s strike made it eight defeats in 14 for Tottenham, piling more misery on Thomas Frank.

Ben Davies carried off on stretcher after leg injury

There was a concerning incident in the first half when Ben Davies went down with an injury. The veteran defender slid into a tackle on West Ham skipper Jarrod Bowen with a quarter of an hour gone.

Bowen came away unscathed, but the Tottenham star stayed down and was in serious pain. The physios and the medical team rushed onto the pitch to treat Ben Davies. According to a report from The Sun, Davies received oxygen and had his leg wrapped in a brace before being stretchered off the pitch to a round of compassionate applause. To make matters worse, referee Jarred Gillett showed the Welshman a yellow card for the reckless tackle on Bowen, as he was taken off.

It is another injury setback for Frank and Tottenham, who have recently lost Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur and Richarlison to long-term injuries. Davies is the latest player to add to Frank’s growing injury list, with the Tottenham defender being forced off with a worrying injury. With his contract up in the summer, any lengthy injury could see him miss the remainder of the campaign. The West Ham game may potentially end up being his final game in a Spurs shirt.

Davies is currently the longest-serving player at the club, producing 36 goal involvements in 363 matches across 12 years. If the injury keeps him out for the remainder of the campaign, it will be an extremely sad way for the Neath-born star to bow out of Tottenham.

Thomas Frank is yet to provide details of Davies’ injury, but it looks to be a serious one. This could have serious ramifications for his involvement with Wales in March’s World Cup play-offs. We wish Davies a speedy recovery!
