Tottenham receive transfer boost as Crystal Palace are ready to sell star striker for the right price in January

Tottenham are all set to be proactive in the January window and bring in attacking reinforcements in the coming weeks.

Tottenham are looking to be proactive in the January transfer window as they aim to turn their fortunes around in the Premier League. The Lilywhites have endured a difficult spell in the competition, winning just seven of their opening 22 matches. They currently sit 14th in the table, and it appears increasingly likely that they will miss out on European qualification unless steps are taken to improve the squad.

The North Londoners addressed their midfield concerns earlier this week by signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal. The England international was brought in after it was confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur would be sidelined for a lengthy period following an injury. The club acted decisively and was quick to hijack a deal at the eleventh hour to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

Tottenham must look to land Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta in the coming weeks.

Fans will be hoping that the Lilywhites show the same intent in the coming weeks as they look to resolve other issues on the pitch. There is a clear need to bring in a new striker following Richarlison’s injury. The Brazilian is set to be ruled out for seven weeks after sustaining a hamstring problem. As the club’s top scorer in all competitions this season, it is vital that Spurs replace him for the remainder of the campaign.

Tottenham move one step closer to potentially landing Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta

It comes as no surprise that Tottenham are targeting a new attacker in the coming weeks. With Richarlison now injured and Dominic Solanke still recovering from an ankle injury, the Lilywhites have decided to act quickly in the market and potentially bring in a replacement for the second half of the season. The North Londoners will now be hoping that the right opportunity arises to invest in an exciting prospect.

Recent reports have linked Spurs with Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta. The France international has been in outstanding form for the Eagles, playing a key role in helping the South London side win the FA Cup last season. As a result, he is now keen to take on a new challenge and is eager to make the move to a bigger club. The Lilywhites view the prolific striker as Richarlison’s replacement and have been trying to pursue a deal for his signature for some time.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner has now welcomed the idea of allowing Mateta to leave the club in the January window, provided the right offer arrives in the coming weeks. Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via Sky Sports), Glasner said,

“There will be a price. We will do a deal if JP (Jean-Philippe Mateta) wants and if nobody pays the price, he stays.”

Tottenham must act quick!

The time has come for Tottenham to move quickly and submit a solid offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta’s signature. The France international has just 18 months remaining on his contract and has shown no signs of extending his stay at Selhurst Park. A shrewd bid could tempt the 28-year-old to make the switch to N17, where he would have the opportunity to play regular first-team football for a Champions League club.

The prolific striker would slot straight into Thomas Frank’s starting eleven. He consistently finds himself in good goal-scoring positions thanks to his intelligent movement in and around the box. Mateta also likes to run into channels and link up with fellow attackers, which often helps him create space for himself. He can be wasteful in front of goal at times, but that is largely due to the number of chances he manages to fashion for himself during a match.

Signing the Frenchman would undoubtedly be a much-needed upgrade on the options Spurs currently have in attack. However, it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will make a move for him during the winter window.
