Thomas Frank likely to head for the exit doors at Tottenham as PL struggles continue to grow.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has not enjoyed a successful spell at N17 following his summer switch from Brentford. Under his guidance, the Lilywhites have struggled to show any real signs of improvement during the first half of the campaign. The Danish tactician promised at the start of the season that his side would compete on all fronts. However, early exits from both domestic cup competitions suggest otherwise.
It appears the former Brentford boss is finding it difficult to adapt to the demands of managing a club of Spurs’ stature. The role may be proving too big for him as the club looks to build on last season’s Europa League success. Thomas Frank’s pragmatic approach has not helped his cause either, with many feeling the Danish tactician has yet to fully grasp what the club represents.

Many believed the recent defeat to West Ham would be the final nail in the coffin for Frank. The infamous “you’re getting sacked in the morning” chant echoing around the stadium was a clear indication that the supporters had seen enough and were calling for a change at the helm. However, the lack of viable managerial options on the market could prove to be a lifeline for the Dane as he looks to turn the club’s fortunes around this week.
Thomas Frank had lunch with Lewis family member, but might still head for the exit doors at Tottenham this week
Ahead of Tottenham’s game against Dortmund, Frank had stated that he had lunch with Nick Beucher, one of the members of the Lewis family ownership. Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange were also present. While highlighting that no assurances were made, Frank was quoted as saying:
“I haven’t heard any situation like that in football where they say, ‘Hey, mate, if you win tomorrow, no problem. If you lose tomorrow, no problem’,” said Frank.
“We had a good conversation about life and football, the future of the club, everything normal, like you do. Of course, there’s a little bit, how would we say, stormy weather out there. I just think it’s an extremely good sign, because normally people are running away if there’s bad news or bad weather coming, they’re normally not coming in and being friendly for lunch.”
To the surprise of many, Tottenham opted to keep Thomas Frank in charge for the upcoming Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund. The decision has not gone down well with large sections of the fanbase, with many arguing that the Danish tactician has done little to justify another chance at N17 this season. There is a strong possibility that the atmosphere turns toxic if the result does not go Spurs’ way on Tuesday night.
Matt Law has now reported that even a victory against Dortmund would not guarantee Frank’s immediate future at N17. Writing for The Telegraph, Law said,
“Frank will remain in charge for the Dortmund game, but the Dane’s position is not thought to be any more secure beyond that. He is expected to be sacked if his position is made untenable by results and more vociferous calls for him to go from supporters.”
The journalist added,
“The Lewis family and Venkatesham have been supportive of Frank and are keen to back him. But widespread chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” from Tottenham’s fans during the West Ham defeat forced them to consider their position and options.”
Law suggests that Thomas Frank could still be shown the exit if his position becomes untenable due to results. The reaction of the supporters during the Dortmund game will also be significant, as the club’s hierarchy will gauge whether the Danish tactician still has the backing of the Spurs faithful. While the Lewis family are reportedly keen to support Frank, the loud boos and infamous chants during the West Ham defeat have prompted them to reassess their stance.

It remains to be seen whether the players are willing to fight for Thomas Frank in the club’s upcoming Champions League clash. The Lilywhites must secure all three points to keep their hopes of automatic qualification for the knockout stages alive. Earlier reports suggested the squad were “bored” with Frank’s tactics and wanted a change at the helm. Supporters will get a clearer answer on that front during tonight’s clash against Dortmund.
