Complication hits as £33,000-a-week loanee’s Tottenham exit stalled despite irresistible offer

The loanee in question joined Tottenham back in 2023.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz has been linked with a move away from Hotspur Way this winter transfer window.

While the North Londoners want to accept what is an irresistible offer for his signature, his exit continues to be complicated owing to a clause problem, which is delaying what could have been a straightforward transfer.

The North Londoners have already accepted an £8.7m offer for Veliz from City Group’s Brazilian counterpart, Bahia. But the £33,000-a-week 22-year-old’s move has been stalled at the time of writing because of terms in his loan spell at his boyhood club Rosario Central.

The thing is, he is still officially on loan there, and Tottenham cannot recall him because the conditions for that to happen have not been met yet. And this has now left all three clubs in a bit of a limbo.

Bahia desperate to sign Alejo Veliz

Three days ago, Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz returned to Rosario Central on a season-long loan deal.
Should Tottenham let go of Alejo Veliz to CFG?

According to a recent report from El Ciudadano, Bahia are desperate to get this deal over the line. And while they are pushing quickly, that continues to be in a stalemate.

The report goes on to state how Rosario Central are aware of the situation and Veliz’s temptation to get this transfer, but their manager, Jorge Almiron, wants to keep hold of him at least until June.

Bahia are even prepared to go further to get this deal over the line. There are reports that suggest that the Brazilian club is also willing to raise the price of their offer. But what is, perhaps, even more of a highlight is that they are open to including a buy-back clause, which means the Lilywhites will have the right to be in charge of the 22-year-old’s future if he progresses the way he should in South America.

As far as Tottenham are concerned, this makes the deal even more enticing.

Should Tottenham let go of Alejo Véliz?
Should Tottenham let go of Alejo Veliz?

Tottenham signed him after his impressive performances in South America, but since he came to Europe, things have not quite worked out, and selling him on a permanent transfer with the option to recall may just allow the club to get their money back as well as help Veliz get a change of environment.

The biggest challenge comes in the shape of Rosario Central. For Rosario to have a way out of this loan agreement, either Veliz needs to ask for a departure, or Tottenham needs to compensate the Argentine side financially. And with Bahia pressing hard with the Lilywhites open to selling, it looks like Veliz has to start putting some pressure on Rosario.

To us, this looks like one of those inevitable moves that could just come about at any moment.
