Tottenham are all set to lose one of their transfer targets to Premier League rivals Bournemouth.
Tottenham Hotspur have had creativity and goalscoring problems all season. This has directly resulted in them lying in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Long-term injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski forced the North London side to hunt for creative midfielders in the last summer transfer window. After searching a lot, they ended up signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig. Simons, however, hasn’t hit the ground running at White Hart Lane and is still getting adjusted to the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
This has led to fellow summer signing Mohammed Kudus shouldering the creative responsibility for the team. But with Kudus being ruled out until April due to a quad injury, coupled with Brennan Johnson departing for Crystal Palace at the start of the New Year, Thomas Frank has limited attacking options at his disposal right now.

Bournemouth agree fee with Vasco da Gama for Rayan
Tottenham have been credited with an interest in Vasco da Gama talent Rayan since 2025. Regarded as one of the best youngsters to come out of Brazil in recent times, Rayan already possesses the experience of almost 100 senior appearances for Vasco da Gama at a tender age of 19. Not to forget, he has chipped in with 23 goals and two assists.
After a strong last season, which yielded 20 goals in 57 appearances, several clubs across Europe have been vying for the Brazilian prodigy’s signature. But, it looks like Bournemouth has won the race for his signature.
According to reputed journalist Ben Jacobs on X, Bournemouth have agreed a deal in principle with Vasco da Gama to sign Rayan. The total package is worth around £30m, with the 19-year-old deemed as a long-term replacement for Antoine Semenyo. The player has been permitted to undergo his medical this week.
Massive setback for Tottenham!
This development is a major blow for Tottenham, who have been eager to sign the highly-rated Rayan. Bournemouth agreeing a fee with Vasco da Gama and the South American trickster being given the green light to travel for medical tests effectively ends any lingering possibility of a late move to bring him to Hotspur Way.
The north Londoners have been exploring options to bring in a wide forward this winter, and this saw Rayan’s name being mentioned. However, with the player now accepting Andoni Iraola’s project at Bournemouth, it doesn’t look like there is any feasible route for Thomas Frank’s club to get back into the race for his signature.
The focus will now need to shift towards alternative targets in order to beef up the attacking options in N17. It is clear that the likes of Mathys Tel, Xavi Simons, Randal Kolo Muani and Wilson Odobert cannot deliver the goods consistently and help Spurs climb the table. That said, it will be interesting to see where the club bosses turn to now after potentially missing out on Rayan to the Cherries.
