Tottenham are in talks with Liverpool to sign Andy Robertson.
Tottenham Hotspur fans must have been left surprised following the club’s latest pursuit of Liverpool star Andy Robertson.
The Lilywhites announced the signing of highly-rated left-back Souza from Santos earlier this week. They continue to be active in the winter transfer window despite completing the acquisitions of Souza and Conor Gallagher.
Attention is now understood to have turned to Andy Robertson, with reports claiming that Tottenham are working on a deal to sign the Liverpool full-back. The news of Spurs’ pursuit of the Scotland captain came out of nowhere, though, but behind the scenes, it seems this is very much part of the plan for the present and future at White Hart Lane.
Andy Robertson is out of contract at Anfield in the summer and said last week that he was undecided on his future. The defender has started just four times in the Premier League this season and wants regular minutes before the World Cup. His most recent appearance in a Red shirt came from the bench in the 1-1 home draw against Burnley on January 17.

Tottenham are willing to pay just £3 million for Andy Robertson
Signed from Hull City for £8m in 2017, Robertson has made 363 appearances and won many major honours, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2019. The Scot may have become the club’s second-choice left-back following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth last summer, but at 31, he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.
Tottenham have decided to take advantage of the left-back’s uncertain situation at Anfield. It is claimed that the north Londoners have brought forward plans to contest for Robertson as a free agent this summer, with talks between all parties said to be advancing, although no deal has yet been finalised. Now, it has emerged how much Spurs want to pay for the experienced Liverpool man.
According to a report from The Times, Tottenham are willing to pay just a meager £3 million for Robertson. It is said that the Spurs gaffer Thomas Frank wants to add more ‘experience, leadership, and character’ to his dressing room, which is also why he pushed the club for Gallagher’s signature.
It is understood that the two-time Premier League winner’s salary will still be high at White Hart Lane, with him currently bagging £160,000 per week at Liverpool.
Bargain deal for Spurs?
Indeed, bringing in players of Robertson’s ilk is exactly what Thomas Frank requires if his Tottenham squad are to have any chance of turning around their fortunes. The Dane’s difficult start to life in N17 has been hindered by a lengthy injury list that includes key first-team players such as Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, while recent setbacks to Richarlison, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and Lucas Bergvall has only piled more misery.
Bringing in Robertson to a struggling dressing room would be some statement from Tottenham. A veteran of over 360 appearances and multiple trophies in Liverpool colours, signing the Scotsman for potentially just £3 million would represent an absolute bargain. He’d bring leadership, winning mentality and quality to a Spurs side lacking on all these aspects, whilst being a top mentor for developing left-backs Udogie and Souza. The ex-Hull City man would also likely take the place of Davies, whose season appears to be over after sustaining an ankle fracture.
Signing Robertson for that aforementioned measly fee would also demonstrate that clubs can still find value for their money in this era of inflated market.
