Mixed news as Joao Palhinha pictured on grass with 2 key stars absent from training

Tottenham are preparing to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 with Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend thanks to a late Cristian Romero equaliser, meaning they have now won just two of their last 15 Premier League games. The result saw the Lilywhites stay in the 14th position, just three points above Nottingham Forest in 17th.

Thomas Frank continues to be under a lot of pressure from the fans, pundits and the media. It looks like he’s clinging onto the job, although if results do not improve quickly in the Premier League, Spurs could very well get dragged into a relegation scrap.

But when it comes to the Champions League, Tottenham’s fortunes have been different. They climbed to fifth in the Champions League league table after beating Borussia Dortmund convincingly at home last week. Despite having a depleted side, they dispatched Borussia Dortmund 2-0, although the red card to Daniel Svensson in the 26th minute massively helped their cause.

Now, Spurs are preparing for the final league-phase fixture of the Champions League against Eintracht Frankfurt. A win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening would guarantee Thomas Frank’s side a direct entry to the competition’s Round of 16. Ahead of the fixture in Germany, they have been dealt some bittersweet news.

Two key Tottenham stars absent from training ahead of Frankfurt trip

According to a report from Football London, Tottenham have been handed fresh double injury concerns after Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro missed training ahead of their Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Undoubtedly the north Londoners’ best player this season, Micky van de Ven scored the opener in the 2-2 draw with Burnley on Saturday. The Dutchman has been consistently solid at the back, whilst chipping in with seven goals so far this campaign. Any injury issue for Van de Ven would be a major worry for Frank and Tottenham.

Also, Pedro Porro wasn’t spotted in training on Tuesday afternoon. The right-back was hooked off at half-time against Burnley, and Frank did not confirm the specific reason behind the Spaniard’s substitution at the weekend.

Amid two fresh injury concerns, Tottenham fans received a positive fitness update when Joao Palhinha was spotted on the grass. The defensive midfielder has missed the last three games with a minor knock, and his availability would be a massive boost for the Lilywhites, especially with both Conor Gallagher and Yves Bissouma not registered in the Champions League squad.

Tottenham fans will be anxiously waiting to see the names in the travelling squad the club announces later today.
