Thomas Frank might get sacked due to this ‘key factor’ even if Tottenham hierarchy ‘want to stick with him’

Thomas Frank is facing the heat for Tottenham’s dismal run in the Premier League.

Tottenham decided to part ways with Ange Postecoglou at the end of last season after he guided the club to its first major trophy in 17 years. The Australian tactician helped the Lilywhites defy the odds by winning the Europa League and securing Champions League qualification for the current campaign. Despite that success, Big Ange was shown the door and replaced by Thomas Frank ahead of pre season.

The Danish tactician promised that his side would compete on all four fronts this season as they looked to build on last year’s Europa League triumph. However, it is fair to say that Frank has failed to live up to those expectations, with the North Londoners already eliminated from all domestic cup competitions. To compound matters, Spurs also find themselves languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Spurs have managed to win just two of their last 14 league matches. The constant boos and jeers from supporters suggest that many fans have seen enough of Thomas Frank and are calling for a change in the dugout for the remainder of the season. A section of the travelling support during the club’s away clash against Burnley even chanted “we want Frank out” after the 2-2 draw with the Clarets.

Tottenham might be forced to part ways with Thomas Frank

Thomas Frank is doing himself no favours by failing to produce positive results in the Premier League. Under his guidance, the Lilywhites have collected just two points from their last five league outings in January. Performances were below par despite facing the likes of Burnley, West Ham, Bournemouth, Sunderland, and Brentford. There is a growing sense that the Danish tactician is running out of time to steady the ship at N17.

Sami Mokbel has now provided the latest update on Frank’s future at N17 and outlined a key factor that could influence Tottenham’s decision on whether to part ways with the former Brentford boss. Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day programme, Mokbel said,

“At the very top at Tottenham, they want this appointment to work. I think if they didn’t, he would’ve shown the door by now because their form has been atrocious. I think what they recognise with Thomas Frank is that they’ve got a good manager in place, but he’s been dealt a rough hand in terms of the squad.”

Tottenham's hierarchy is still backing Thomas Frank amid fan pressure.

The journalist added, highlighting that one ‘key factor’ which could prove to be decisive:

“The key factor in all of this would be the fan reaction. A lot of the fans have already turned on him, and if they go through February without picking up any points, that fan pressure would just intensify. And it may leave Spurs with no choice, even though they want to stick with him.”

Mokbel reports that the Spurs hierarchy remain willing to back Thomas Frank and want his appointment to succeed. There is a growing belief within the club that the Danish tactician has been dealt a difficult hand this season, particularly amid changes at boardroom level. However, the journalist claims that the Lewis family could be forced to part ways with Frank if fan unrest continues to grow. The upcoming fixtures are expected to play a crucial role in determining whether he remains in charge beyond the end of the season.

Recent reports suggest that Spurs have already begun exploring managerial alternatives in case they decide to move on from Thomas Frank. The Lilywhites have been linked with Roberto De Zerbi as they look to rediscover form in the Premier League. The Italian tactician is reportedly considering resigning from his role at Marseille, which could open the door for Tottenham to appoint him for the second half of the campaign.
