A rather worrisome injury update about Tottenham’s ‘scorpion kick’ hero emerges

The star scored a brace as Tottenham held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at home.

Tottenham Hotspur produced an excellent comeback from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Manchester City in north London on Sunday evening.

Spurs, freshly hit by injury blows to defenders Kevin Danso and Djed Spence, were totally outclassed and outsmarted by Manchester City in the first half. It looked as if Thomas Frank was destined for the sack from the club after Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo gave the Sky Blues a 2-0 lead going in at the break. Boos engulfed the Tottenham Stadium as the players walked into the tunnel.

On the other side of the break, Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into a fine save to deny a fierce strike from compatriot Destiny Udogie, as Tottenham looked to mount a comeback. And the hosts halved the deficit soon after through Dominic Solanke, who raced ahead of the Man City backline and finished from close range after being played through by Xavi Simons, albeit kicking through the calf of Marc Guehi to force the ball in.

City players were unhappy that a foul wasn’t given and the goal stood. With 20 minutes remaining, Tottenham pulled level in outstanding fashion. Conor Gallagher crossed from the right for Solanke to convert with a ridiculous scorpion kick that Donnarumma couldn’t stop from going in despite his best efforts.

Dominic Solanke injury concern emerges ahead of trip to Manchester United

The likes of Xavi Simons and Conor Gallagher were very good in the middle of the park in the second half, but it was Solanke who applied the finishing touches to the chances they created. The England striker scored with both of his shots on target, with the leveller being an outrageous effort. However, a new concern has emerged after what he was spotted doing in the latter stages of the game.

Solanke was denied the chance to grab a hat-trick against Pep Guardiola’s side as a result of an ankle injury. Reputed Football London journalist Alasdair Gold mentioned on his X account that the injury had the striker “hobbling around a fair bit” after “holding his ankle” for a while. Not long after, Thomas Frank decided to take no risk and subbed him off with the scores level at 2-2.

The 28-year-old, clutching his ankle and hobbling around, was the last thing Tottenham fans wanted to witness. Solanke has already missed months of this campaign following an ankle injury that led to surgery in September.

All Thomas Frank, his coaching staff and the fans can now hope it is nothing serious and the club-record signing is fit to face a resurgent Manchester United side at Old Trafford on Saturday.
