Fabrizio Romano spills the beans on what Tottenham were trying to do ‘in the last 24 hours’ of January transfer window

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank was hopeful of reinforcing his squad on transfer deadline day.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently dealing with an unprecedented injury situation.

Their injury list grew last week when Kevin Danso and Djed Spence dropped out of the squad to face Manchester City in north London. Key figures such as James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, Mohammed Kudus, and Richarlison are all sidelined, forcing Thomas Frank to rely on squad options and fringe players to name his first XI in recent weeks.

While Spurs mounted an impressive comeback to secure a point against Manchester City, fans still need to see a lot of improvement from a team that has largely underperformed this season. Despite the club officials knowing that there were several gaps to plug in the squad, the Lilywhites had a quiet winter transfer window.

Conor Gallagher’s arrival from Atletico Madrid has been the marquee signing of the window. Thomas Frank was hopeful of adding more to the squad in the final stages of the window, but it did not happen.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Tottenham explored the possibility of signing a striker on deadline day

According to transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham were considering adding a striker on transfer deadline day. The Italian revealed that the north Londoners made several calls in the past 24 hours to evaluate the striker market for landing potential targets.

“There could be some possibilities. Spurs made some calls in the last 24 hours, exploring opportunities, exploring chances, and I think there is still some space and time to see something happening, but it is never that easy in the January transfer window,” Fabrizio Romano said exclusively on the Market Madness podcast.

“There could be some possibilities. Spurs made some calls in the last 24 hours, exploring opportunities, exploring chances, and I think there is still some space and time to see something happening, but it is never that easy in the January transfer window.

“For example, they were considering the possibility of adding a striker to the squad, but many clubs are looking for strikers, and it’s not easy, especially in the final hours of the market.

“There is still something they are trying to do, but it’s not guaranteed, because it’s about opportunities, not top targets at this stage of the market.”

Tottenham managed to keep hold of Randal Kolo Muani

It was extremely disappointing to see Thomas Frank being let down by the board in the transfer market. Signing a striker was considered to be among the priorities heading into the window, given Dominic Solanke and Richarlison’s injury problems.

Not getting in a striker may come back to bite the Lilywhites, as Frank and Co. are still alive in the Champions League. The Danish tactician will want to go on a good run in the knockout stages of the Champions League, but the injury situation at the moment makes things uncertain. Frank, no doubt, will take pride in managing to at least keep hold of Randal Kolo Muani, who was keen to join Juventus on loan for the remainder of the season.
