Legendary German footballer lavishes praise on 18-year-old Tottenham loanee who’s been superb in Bundesliga

The Tottenham youngster continues to grow leaps and bounds on loan at Hamburger SV.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luka Vuskovic’s loan at SV Hamburger continues to go from strength to strength after he helped his team earn a draw against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich at the weekend.

With Bayern Munich leading 2-1, the teenager scored the equaliser in the 53rd minute, which helped Hamburger SV earn a valuable point in the Bundesliga. Luka Vuskovic did well against Harry Kane and earned the Man of the Match award for his performance, demonstrating his quality once again.

Since joining on loan from Tottenham last summer, the Croatian has been an ever-present at the back for Hamburg. Since Luka Vuskovic received a baptism of fire on his Bundesliga debut, playing the full 90 minutes in a 5-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, the towering central defender has not looked back. He has barely put a foot wrong since then for Merlin Polzin’s side, deservingly winning the Bundesliga’s player of the first half of the season award. In addition, he has received the Goal of the Year award.

German legend Lothar Matthaus heaps praise on Luka Vuskovic

Vuskovic is certainly proving his value on loan at Hamburg. The Croat’s consistent performances in the Bundesliga have led to many European clubs sitting back and taking notice. Under Merlin Polzin, the defender has continued to develop his game and is quickly showing why he is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.

After Hamburg’s 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich, German legend Lothar Matthaus praised Vuskovic’s display. He called the Tottenham defender “intelligent”, predicting a great future in the future.

“Fantastic! That’s quality. At 18, he plays as if he’s already played in three World Cups,” Lothar Matthaus said on Sky Sports Germany (h/t Football London).

“When I was 30, I didn’t see what he saw at 18. This player is so intelligent. You rarely find that. How cleverly he played. He’s doing everything right. Something really, really great could come of this.”

It is big praise for Vuskovic, coming from one of the greats of German football, Lothar Matthaus. Indeed, the defender has been playing with a certain level of poise, calmness, and maturity for Hamburg. He is making the headlines for all the right reasons. The Croatian talent, who wants to remain at Volksparkstadion for another season, once again showed Tottenham what exactly they’ve got.

For now, Vuskovic will be looking to build on his impressive displays in the Bundesliga. Come summer, the Lilywhites must look to integrate the Split-born talent into their first-team setup next season and allow the lanky defender to establish himself as a regular at White Hart Lane.
