Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange slammed for letting ‘this’ Tottenham official ‘hang on’ until end of January

Tottenham endured a frustrating ending to the January transfer window.

With Tottenham Hotspur without a Premier League win in 2026, and Thomas Frank’s future coming under intense scrutiny, fans may have expected the club to invest heavily in the January window. But it did not happen.

The Lilywhites made just additions in the recently concluded winter transfer window, with one unlikely to play a major role in the first team as he adapts to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League. The other, though, could turn out to be an astute signing which serves the club well now and in the long term.

Reinforcing the wide attacking unit and midfield options were high on the north Londoners’ priority list heading into the January transfer window. Failure to bring in fresh faces beyond Conor Gallagher and Souza leaves the squad fragile for the remainder of the campaign, which involves competing in the Premier League and the Champions League.

John Wenham slams top Tottenham officials for a poor January transfer window

Fabio Paratici only returned to Spurs in October 2025, having left in 2023 following accusations of financial irregularities at his former club, Juventus. He subsequently received a 30-month ban from FIFA, but worked as a consultant for Tottenham before officially re-joining earlier this campaign.

However, in mid-January, it was announced that Paratici would leave the north London club again after the transfer window, having expressed his desire to return to Italy, where he will join Fiorentina.

Reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham feels the poor transfer window the club endured was due to the chaos behind the scenes in N17. He slammed CEO Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange for the mess, whilst questioning what value Paratici added by staying at the club until the end of the winter window.

“The blame for that has to go to the sporting director Johan Lange and also Vinai Venkatesham, he is supposed to be running the club and delegating powers down to people to make signings happen, we haven’t seen that,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“What was the point in Paratici hanging on? It was said he was hanging around to help with the rest of the transfer window, what has he actually helped with?

“We haven’t made a first-team signing in those last two weeks, until the window closed, when we kept getting weaker, due to the number of injuries in the squad.”

Thomas Frank to suffer for Tottenham’s total mismanagement

Thomas Frank is on thin ice at Spurs. The majority of the fanbase have had enough of Frank and are pleading with the board to get rid of him. However, the Dane deserves sympathy for having to work with a squad lacking quality and stretched massively due to injuries.

After overseeing a strong Tottenham comeback from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Manchester City at home last week, the 52-year-old had said that the club would be active to try to bring in new players in the closing stages of the transfer window. Fans were expecting at least one more face through the door on deadline day, but it was not to be, in a frustrating end to the proceedings.

By not backing him sufficiently in the transfer market, the hierarchy have left Frank in limbo.
