Tottenham suffered a 2-0 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Tottenham Hotspur had another grim afternoon yesterday as the Lilywhites returned to their familiar settings from this season, where the supporters spent their weekend with a heavy loss. This time around it was Manchester United who got the better of Thomas Frank & Co. at Old Trafford as the pressure intensifies on the Danish head coach.
To put it into numbers, this leaves Spurs with no wins in the last seven Premier League outings. And now it looks like Tottenham are firmly stuck in the bottom half of the table as confidence continues to drain on and off the pitch.
Romero default settings see another loss in Frank’s underwhelming time at N17
If the North Londoners’ supporters even had a grim hope of something, it was taken away quite quickly around the half-hour mark yesterday when Cristian Romero returned to his default settings as well, taking up yet another reckless straight red card.
After the red, Carrick’s side barely wasted any time to make their numerical advantage count. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring in the 38th minute. Bruno Fernandes wrapped it up with that late cushion goal.
Fans frustration come afloat at Old Trafford
Frank travelled to Manchester already under pressure despite the fact that chiefs at Hotspur Way have stood by the Dane so far. But it looks like patience among the supporters is wearing thin. And that frustration was made crystal clear in the away end at Old Trafford yesterday.
The Lilywhites’ travelling fans were chanting the name of former manager Mauricio Pochettino in the second half. And these chants were loud for a while and impossible to ignore, showing that the fans are losing faith in the direction that the club is going right now.
Pochettino reunion can only happen post summer
Pochettino is a widely popular name among Tottenham fans, given that he was the one who took this club from the trenches to a Champions League final. His five-year spell saw Tottenham play some of the best football in the modern era.
But these chants are more about how much discontent there is among the fans with Frank. Though right now a reunion for Poch looks quite unlikely, speaking in a short-term sense, as the Argentine is preparing for a home World Cup with the United States national team.
Though if this goes on into summer, there is a high chance that Tottenham can bring back Pochettino at Hotspur Way.
