Tottenham’s attack has been pretty underwhelming this season.
Tottenham Hotspur were working hard in the recently concluded winter transfer window to bring in a new wide forward. The chiefs at Hotspur Way were so confident of it that they even sanctioned selling Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace.
But no winger came in, Kudus got injured, and suddenly Tottenham are quite thin on options in the wide roles.
So now this promise of getting a new winger needs to translate into action when the summer window comes around, as Lilywhites supporters continue to crave immediate impact signings.
One of the transfers that the North Londoners were trying to get through in the January window was of RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande. But the transfer did not materialise, largely because of the hefty price tag that the Red Bull-owned giants have attached to the 19-year-old, who’s on 12 G/A in the Bundesliga this season.
Recent reports have brought up a number along the lines of eighty, suggesting that Leipzig could demand a fee which is in excess of £80m and one that will potentially rise to around £87m for the Ivory Coast international. It is definitely a sum of money that Tottenham may struggle to compete with, but Romano has poured cold water on those concerns at Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano gives latest on Yan Diomande transfer
Speaking about the possibilities of Tottenham signing Yan Diomande, Fabrizio spoke on his YouTube channel, wherein he clarified that while competition for the teenager will be fierce, Tottenham will remain very much in the picture for his signature.
He said (via. YouTube):
“I think it’s going to be an interesting summer for Yan Diomande. Because on Yan Diomande, the attention is really there.
“I will tell you more very soon, but I think Bayern will be there, Manchester United will be there, Tottenham will be there, and Paris Saint-Germain could be there as well. So several clubs are monitoring the player.”
Romano also clarified that the race for his signatures is still a long one, as no formal talks or bids have been submitted by any club at the time of writing.
He added:
“At the moment, we are at the scouting level. So we are not at the bids, negotiations or talks. Just some conversations, following the player, monitoring the player.
“So it’s still early. But there is going to be plenty of movement around Diomande, because for sure, there is a lot of attention on the player. So, it’s going to be one to watch for sure in this summer window.”
Author Opinion
Yan Diomande is a familiar name, one that has been extensively linked with Tottenham for some time. He also fits into this policy that Tottenham have adopted of late to sign high-potential young players at N17 and have that capacity to become a cornerstone at Hotspur Way in the long run.
While the North Londoners have a massive opportunity at hand, they will have to go toe-to-toe financially (and in terms of convincing the player) with the likes of Bayern, PSG and Manchester United.
But one thing remains concrete: that the chiefs at N17 are going to go aggressive in trying to land Yan.
