Fabrizio Romano names Tottenham’s ‘dream target’ who’s been tearing up the EPL with 13 G/A

Tottenham are planning to recruit a creative midfielder in the summer.

After a quiet winter transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make some big moves in the summer to continue their squad rebuild.

Having struggled for invention, dynamism and goals from midfield, Spurs could target a playmaker as a long-term replacement for the crocked James Maddison. The ACL injury to Maddison in the pre-season tour of Asia, coupled with Dejan Kulusevski already on the sidelines, left the squad without a real creative force. Spurs, in their bid to sign creative players, suffered several setbacks in the summer.

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers was on their list of targets. The Tottenham chiefs were impressed by the England international’s performances for Aston Villa in the Premier League last season, and former manager Thomas Frank was eager to bring him to the club. However, Spurs were priced out of a move, and Morgan Rogers stayed at Villa Park and has continued his development under Unai Emery.

Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham “dream” of signing Morgan Rogers

After a slow start to the 2025/26 season, Morgan Rogers has picked up form at Aston Villa. He has bagged 10 goals and seven assists in 35 appearances, including eight goals and five assists in the Premier League. The 23-year-old is indispensable to Unai Emery’s side, having become a chief source of creativity and goals.

Tottenham have continued to keep tabs on Rogers after their failed move last summer. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the north London club “dreams” of signing the Villa star.

“For Tottenham, [he] is a dream target, for sure, but at the moment, again, the player was not available last summer. So, it was not possible for Tottenham to proceed,” Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel.

Rogers would be a sensational acquisition for Spurs

Tottenham are once again looking to bring in attacking reinforcements in the summer. The Lilywhites have long been in search of a creative midfielder who can carry the ball forward and make an impact in the final third. Rogers, in that regard, fits the bill accurately.

A No.10 by trade, Rogers can also operate as a false 9 or on the left flank, giving the Tottenham boss plenty of options to utilise him effectively. He would give the North Londoners a Premier League-proven commodity within their ranks, while the England international’s technical quality, ball-striking ability and flair should immediately raise the quality of their squad.
