Thomas Frank was sacked by Tottenham board after Spurs succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United.
It was coming. Thomas Frank has now been sacked as Tottenham manager as he exits with Spurs languishing at 16th in the Premier League table. Having joined the club only in the summer of 2025, the former Brentford manager had it rough in EPL, with contrasting results in the UEFA Champions League.
A strong finish in the UCL group stage wasn’t enough to keep his job secure, as a run of no wins in 8 games sealed the Dane’s fate. The home loss against Newcastle United was the final nail in the coffin, with the struggling Magpies earning a 2-1 win.
With a relegation threat to evade, and a tough run of fixtures ahead in the UEFA Champions League, Tottenham might have another task at hand as well – having a say in the title race. Spurs’ next match is against their fierce rivals Arsenal on the 22nd of February, and a new manager bounce could go a long way.
Arsenal still have Manchester City tailing
Just when everyone thought that a stunning Dominik Szoboszlai freekick in the second-half could have almost thrown Man City pretty far from Arsenal in the points table, a stunning come back from the Blues later on meant that the Cityzens aren’t going away for now.
With 6 points separating Arsenal and Manchester City, the crucial North London derby has now gotten even more spicier following Thomas Frank’s sacking. The league leaders were recently a victim of a seemingly new manager bounce in the form of Michael Carrick when Manchester United visited The Emirates a couple of weeks ago.
Although United are still unbeaten under Carrick, it was only their manager’s second game in-charge (during his second spell). Having beaten Man City in his very first game, Carrick’s men beat Arsenal 3-2, at The Emirates, meaning that the club lost for the first time at home.
Spurs, although largely injuries-and-suspensions-hit could still spring a surprise when Mikel Arteta’s men visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A win against Arsenal would reduce the league leaders’ lead at the top to just 3 points, should City win their next 2 fixtures. Hence, the Lilywhites surely might have a big say in the title race.
