Tottenham have lost another player to a long-term injury.
Tottenham Hotspur’s injury list keeps on growing with every passing game.
Destiny Udogie was forced off in the second half in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend. The left-back, who only recently returned from a hamstring injury, lasted just 55 minutes before going down to receive treatment and being withdrawn. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Udogie has suffered another hamstring injury and will be sidelined for five weeks.
Just days after the Italian’s injury, Spurs suffered another setback in the form of Wilson Odobert. The young winger went off injured in the 35th minute of Tuesday night’s home defeat by Newcastle United after jarring his knee on the turf when challenging Harvey Barnes. He received treatment on the pitch before walking straight down the tunnel, as Mathys Tel replaced his compatriot.
Thomas Frank, who was sacked by the club on Wednesday morning, couldn’t give an update on Wilson Odobert’s injury at full-time. However, there has now been an update on the Frenchman’s injury, and it is a grim one.
Wilson Odobert suffers an ACL injury
According to a report from The Athletic, Wilson Odobert has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in the first half against Newcastle and will miss the remainder of the season.
The 21-year-old is set for surgery and a significant recovery period, joining a host of his teammates in the treatment room. James Maddison suffered an ACL rupture before the start of the season, while Dejan Kulusevski has been out with a knee injury since May 2025. Now, Odobert has joined the duo as a long-term casualty.
It is a hammer blow to the north Londoners, who are already without attackers Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison, and sold Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace in the first week of the January transfer window without signing a replacement. Before his injury, Odobert had featured in 33 games across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and registering four assists. He was still searching for his first league goal, but that wish now will not be fulfilled as he is unlikely to don the Spurs shirt again this term.
This injury is not only a setback for the north Londoners, but also for the young Frenchman who certainly had hopes of making the World Cup squad this summer. It is a cruel one to take; hopefully, Odobert comes back fitter and stronger next season.
