TalkSPORT pundit has tipped Tottenham to appoint former England boss as a replacement for the departed Thomas Frank.
Thomas Frank was dismissed by Tottenham Hotspur after the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday, which left the club reeling in 16th in the Premier League table.
It was their 11th defeat of yet another gloomy Premier League campaign, with poor performances and results, coupled with an injury crisis, leading to Thomas Frank losing his job. It leaves the Lilywhites looking for yet another new manager- their third in eight months.
Roberto De Zerbi, who recently parted ways with Marseille, is open to accepting the Tottenham job immediately. Mauricio Pochettino is also an option to take over, but he would not be available until the summer after the World Cup with the USMNT. John Heitinga is the current favourite to replace Thomas Frank in an interim capacity until the end of the season, but nothing has been decided so far.
Darren Bent urges Tottenham to appoint former England boss
Amid Tottenham’s new manager hunt, Darren Bent has urged his old club to hire Gareth Southgate. The talkSPORT pundit believes the former England boss would be the ideal candidate to come in and immediately extinguish any looming fears of a dreaded relegation, considering the options that are currently available to Spurs.
“I think he (Southgate) is the one,” Darren Bent said on the talkSPORT show.
“In terms of stabilising the club, getting them to a point where they’ve got solid foundations, Southgate may be the best out there that they can get. He’s there and available, ready to go.”
“Steve Holland and Southgate together are brilliant. I’ve never worked with Holland, but he’s a brilliant coach. He’s at United with Carrick, so he’s not going to Tottenham.
“That’s the problem they’ve got.”
Gareth Southgate obviously hasn’t worked since leaving England after the Euro 2024 final defeat, but he remains a well-respected figure within the game, and the fact that he’d be able to take over immediately is undoubtedly a big plus. However, back in November 2025, the 55-year-old admitted that he was enjoying his time away from the game and was not eyeing a swift return to management.
So, while the Englishman would be a decent appointment, it seems unlikely to see him return to the management anytime soon after his words.
