Ex-scout lists grim consequences Tottenham might face should interim coach Igor Tudor fail

Igor Tudor’s priority will be to help Tottenham retain their Premier League status by hook or crook.

Igor Tudor has been confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur’s head coach until the end of the season.

Following the sacking of Thomas Frank after the midweek defeat to Newcastle United, the Lilywhites have agreed for Igor Tudor to take charge on an interim basis. The appointment of the 47-year-old is designed to improve performances and deliver results, so Spurs fans will hope he hits the ground running in his first gig in England.

Tottenham are seemingly in a relegation battle along with the likes of Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, and Leeds United, and Tudor’s unspoken target will be to retain the club’s top-flight status. Not only that, the North Londoners will be aiming to go as far as possible in the Champions League, having directly made it to the last-16 after finishing fourth in the league phase.

Bryan King says Tottenham could lose key players if Igor Tudor fails to achieve the objectives

Earlier this season, Tudor was sacked by Juventus. He lasted just seven months in his job at Juventus, with three consecutive defeats without scoring a goal prompting the board to show him the door. So, the expectations within the Tottenham fanbase aren’t high, although they will hope he fulfils the bare minimum objective of keeping the club in the Premier League.

Now, former scout Bryan King has suggested winning the Champions League could be the only way the Lilywhites can retain the services of their best players over the summer.

“If they don’t win the Champions League, they aren’t going to be in Europe next year,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I can see Romero, van de Ven, Vicario, then one of Dominic Solanke or Richarlison wanting to leave.

“The Madrid clubs are there, Atletico want Romero, and Real want van de Ven. If you lose those two, it brings in big money, but they’ve got to be replaced.”

Winning the Champions League unrealistic

Romero, who is serving a four-game suspension after a stupid red card against Manchester United, has been heavily linked with an exit from Tottenham. The 2022 World Cup winner is wanted by top Spanish clubs, whereas Van de Ven has caught the attention of Liverpool.

If Tottenham are to keep hold of Romero and Van de Ven, as well as other prized assets, they’d have to win the Champions League under Tudor. Realistically, that doesn’t look like happening, even though Tudor’s high-pressing, aggressive and direct football may cause teams problems in the Champions League.

First and foremost, Spurs have to guarantee safety in the Premier League. The upcoming fixtures are crucial, and they could give an idea of how far Tudor’s team can go. Keeping hold of the best players will not only happen by qualifying in the Champions League but also by the club showing intent in the transfer market.
