Igor Tudor hopes to hit the ground running in the Premier League after becoming Tottenham’s new interim head coach.
Igor Tudor has arrived at Tottenham Hotspur as the new interim head coach, with fans hoping to see an improvement in performances and results.
Thomas Frank was sacked with the club sitting just five points above the relegation zone amid a run of two wins in 17 Premier League games, so the bar is quite low for Igor Tudor to start things from in N17. The Croat’s immediate attention shifts to reviving Spurs’ fortunes and keeping the club away from getting embroiled in a relegation battle.
Tottenham are currently 16th in the table and cannot afford to drop any further. Performances and results have been underwhelming all season, and Tudor must try to get a tune out of the squad that has been ravaged by injuries. Spurs have several players out due to injuries and suspension, making it quite a challenging task for the experienced Croatian tactician.
Alasdair Gold provides a mixed take on Tottenham’s appointment of Igor Tudor
Tudor was recently in charge of Juventus, although he managed to stay at the club for only eight months. He won just 12 points from eight league games in charge of Juventus this season. The 47-year-old was unable to lead the Turin giants to a single win in three Champions League matches.
Adding his sacking at Juventus to the fact that he has no previous Premier League experience makes Tudor’s appointment by Spurs a massive gamble. This is the viewpoint of reputable journalist Alasdair Gold. In support of the new interim coach, Gold claims that Tudor has managed “big players and big egos” in his career, and that is exactly what Spurs need at this moment to avoid the drop.
“I think it might bode well for Tottenham. Well, certainly I hope it will bode well. We need it to bode well. Let’s be honest. Otherwise, we’ll be playing our football in a different division next season,” Gold said on his YouTube channel.
“Um, there is a big risk, and that is the fact that he has zero Premier League experience to call upon. You know, we’ll talk a little bit about that, about oppositions and how that’s going to impact him, how he’s going to have to be kind of surrounded by a bit of experience as well in that regard.
“But what I would say, there’s a big old tick in the column in the pro column is that whenever he goes into a club, he’s managed big players, big egos, and pretty much always makes a big impact. And that’s the key thing that we need right now as a football club, Tottenham more than anything.”
Tudor has a point to prove
Almost everyone are writing Tudor off before he’s even started at Tottenham. That is the pressure he has to deal with, having decided to accept such a difficult role at a difficult time.
The Croatian tactician has joined Tottenham with the primary objective of improving performances and getting wins to drive the team up in the table. He is expected to organise the side and make them difficult for opponents to play against. Given the alarming number of goals the Lilywhites have conceded in the last three months, Tudor and his coaching staff have to tighten up the screws at the back.
Going forward, he must encourage the flair players to express themselves in the final third. Tudor has to try and get a tune out of the attacking talents, employing a system that suits their strengths. All in all, the ex-Juventus boss has a point to prove in his first managerial job in England. Our fans will be totally in support of the gaffer as he tries to take Spurs out of the mess.
