Tottenham receive transfer boost as 37-year-old ‘goal-machine’ faces uncertain future at top La Liga club

Tottenham are interested in signing a new centre-forward in the summer for next season.

Tottenham are desperate to return to winning ways in the Premier League as they look to secure their top-flight status in the coming months. The Lilywhites remain the only side yet to register a league win in the calendar year, a worrying statistic that has left supporters increasingly fearful of a potential relegation battle. The recent sacking of Thomas Frank has only added to the uncertainty, with the club now searching for stability during a crucial phase of the season.

Should the North Londoners manage to turn things around and survive in the Premier League, reinforcements in the summer will be essential. While there are several areas of concern within the squad, the most pressing issue lies in attack. Spurs are expected to target a new striker who can replace Richarlison next season and help the club push for European qualification under a new permanent manager.

Randal Kolo Muani, who joined on loan in the summer, has shown flashes of quality at N17, but there remains a strong possibility that the Lilywhites will not pursue a permanent deal. Meanwhile, Richarlison’s future is also up in the air, with growing speculation linking him to a return to his homeland.

Tottenham might look to sign Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski

Tottenham’s decision not to sign a striker during the winter transfer window raised eyebrows, particularly after it was confirmed that Richarlison would be sidelined for a couple of months with a hamstring injury. Reports have since emerged suggesting that the Brazilian is being courted by Flamengo as he looks for a fresh start following the World Cup. With that in mind, Spurs will almost certainly need to bring in a new centre-forward to replace the 28-year-old ahead of next season.

Earlier reports claimed that the Lilywhites were interested in signing Barcelona stalwart Robert Lewandowski during the winter window. With only a few months remaining on his contract at the Camp Nou, a January move appeared possible. However, the veteran striker chose to stay put until the end of the season, forcing Spurs to delay any potential move until the summer.

A fresh update has now emerged regarding Lewandowski’s future. According to Ekrem Konur (via X), the 37-year-old goal-machine is expected to decide his next move after Barcelona’s presidential elections. While his preference is to remain with the club, there is a genuine possibility that Barcelona could part ways as they look to bring in a younger replacement. This has opened the door for Spurs to explore a potential move.

Not a wise move!

Despite his proven goal-scoring pedigree, signing Lewandowski may not be the smartest option for Tottenham. At 37, he would offer only a short-term solution to their attacking problems, potentially forcing the club back into the market within a couple of seasons. His substantial wage demands would also require Spurs to significantly alter their salary structure.

Instead, the Lilywhites would be better served by focusing on alternative targets who can provide long-term value. There is still ample time for the club to identify the right replacement for Richarlison as they aim to re-establish themselves in the top half of the Premier League table next season. For now, the priority must be on rediscovering winning form under Igor Tudor and finishing the campaign in a respectable position to attract top talent in the summer.
