Tottenham could raid the Serie A for a star playmaker on the recommendation of interim boss Igor Tudor.

Tottenham Hotspur have installed Igor Tudor as their interim boss until the end of the season, hoping the appointment works out and he helps the club maintain its top-flight status.

The 47-year-old has been tasked with getting the players to play an attractive brand of football, while also ensuring the club finishes in a respectable position in the league table by the end of the campaign. Spurs’ extensive injury list will not do him any favours as Igor Tudor looks to get the best out of the talent available at his disposal.

Tottenham have been toothless in attack all season, failing to constantly create chances and score goals. The absences of creative stars James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have massively impacted the team, with marquee summer signing Xavi Simons still getting grips to the Premier League. Thus, it is imperative that the club bosses strengthen this area when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Tottenham monitoring AS Roma star

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham are closely monitoring the situation of Lorenzo Pellegrini at AS Roma. They could even be ready to launch a ‘decisive attack’ for him, on the recommendation of interim boss Igor Tudor, who is a great admirer of the former AS Roma skipper’s talent.

Lorenzo Pellegrini has been a great servant for AS Roma. An academy graduate, having joined the club back in 2007, the creative midfielder made his senior debut for AS Roma in 2015 before moving to Sassuolo. After two seasons with Sassuolo, Roma exercised the buyback clause in 2017 to bring the Italy international back home. Since then, he hasn’t looked back.

Pellegrini has made 340 appearances for I Giallorossi, notching up 59 goals and 60 assists. However, the 29-year-old’s future at Stadio Olimpico remains uncertain. His current deal expires in a few months (Transfermarkt), and the midfielder is ‘seriously tempted’ by the idea of leaving Serie A and playing in another league amid Tottenham interest.

The report adds that Roma want to retain the Italian star and are exploring the possibility of a last-minute renewal. They have contacted Pellegrini’s entourage to find a contract agreement, but he is stalling. This is an indication that the player is seriously considering leaving his boyhood club for newer pastures, with playing in the Premier League believed to be a tempting proposition.

Pellegrini would be a shrewd acquisition

Pellegrini has proven himself in Serie A, and he was once regarded as one of the league’s best midfielders. The heartbeat of Roma, the playmakers appears to be on the verge of ending his long-term association with the club in the summer. And he could become an appealing free agent upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, and Tottenham will do well to bring him in.

Spurs are not only lacking creativity, but also leadership, direction, and fight in midfield. After serious knee problems, it is difficult to gauge how Maddison and Kulusevski will perform after they return to full fitness. Keeping that in mind, the Lilywhites must try going for Pellegrini to address their problems in the final third.

All in all, the Roma star has the qualities to represent a shrewd acquisition on a potential free transfer for Tottenham.
