Tottenham were hammered 4-1 by Arsenal.
The struggles at Hotspur Way continued last weekend as Arsenal conquered Tottenham Hotspur stadium in what was a one-sided game for most of the ninety minutes, showing the massive difference in where both the clubs lie in terms of quality.
While the Gunners fortified their stand on the summit of the Premier League, the defeat leaves Tottenham only four points out of the relegation zone. This is quite a tricky position for a club that is among the big six on the English shores and has not seen the drop for nearly half of a century.
While there were barely any positives to take away for the Lilywhites from the North London derby, the fans were quick to spot signs that have got them sweating again.
Van de Ven ignored Tudor vs. Arsenal
Cameras caught a moment where Spurs interim coach Igor Tudor, who only took charge a week back until the end of the season, was asking his skipper for the day, Micky Van de Ven, to move higher up the pitch as the Gunners continued to dominate and found it easy to get into that final third.
But you could clearly see from the video how the former Wolfsburg centre back did not respond to the Croat’s instructions. And that was followed by Tudor throwing his arms up in the air with frustration as his message didn’t quite come across on the pitch.
While you would see such moments in games every now and then, for Lilywhites supporters it has only fuelled up concerns about cohesion in the roster, especially in a time where unity is very important.
This clearly shows how deep problems run at Hotspur Way
The Lilywhites were clearly outplayed by what was a ruthless Arsenal side. And after the game Tudor was not afraid to admit the magnitude of the challenge that lies ahead for Tottenham. The former Juventus manager went on to speak about how Spurs are currently facing a few structural and psychological problems. And let’s admit, these problems have been ongoing for some time. It would date back to the end of Ange Postecoglou’s tenure.
Thought while there is this increasing pressure on Tudor and Tottenham, the interim head coach has been quite adamant that his side will not be relegated. But those words need to be reflected in performances, and with games against Fulham and Crystal Palace next, performances need to pick up soon.
Now, whether what was captured on video was a mere flash of temper or a clear indication of how there are bigger problems on the side which are yet to be determined, one thing is given: that there is barely any room for error at N17 now (and that room will continue to shrink every passing week).
