Tottenham want to offload Guglielmo Vicario in the summer and sign a new No.1.
There has been speculation surrounding the future of Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham Hotspur for months now.
Having signed from Empoli in 2023, Vicario has been Tottenham’s No.1 since. However, the 29-year-old has failed to live up to the hype and expectations with which he arrived at the club. Rated highly in Serie A, the Italian’s time in the Premier League has been full of inconsistency, wild decision-making and high-profile errors.
There have been reports of Vicario wanting to end his time at Spurs and return to Italy in the summer. Inter Milan have been heavily linked with a move for the Tottenham shot-stopper. Recently, Inter Milan have been joined by Juventus in the chase for the Italy international’s signature.
In a bid to potentially replace Vicario ahead of the 2026/27 season, it looks like Spurs could raid the French market in the summer.
Tottenham eye move for RC Lens goalkeeper
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, RC Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser has emerged as an option to replace Vicario, who Tottenham want to move on in the summer.
A product of Strasbourg’s academy, Robin Risser, widely regarded as one of the top-performing goalkeepers in Ligue 2 last season, only moved to RC Lens in the summer. The France Under-21 international has enjoyed a breakout season in Ligue 1, playing a pivotal role in RC Lens’ rise as surprise title contenders. He has conceded only 20 goals in 23 Ligue 1 appearances, whilst keeping nine clean sheets.
Risser’s performances in a Lens shirt have caught the North London club’s recruitment and scouting team in recent weeks, the report adds. The 21-year-old’s form has also put him firmly in contention for a spot in Didier Deschamps’ France World Cup squad. However, Spurs could face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, as well as European clubs, for the Lens star’s signature.
Tottenham’s primary focus now will be retaining their Premier League status under Igor Tudor. The 4-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday would have created immediate doubts in the minds of the fans over whether Tudor is the right man for the interim role, but it is unfair to judge him based on just one game. There are still 11 games left for the big Croat to prove his credentials and fulfil the club’s main objective.
As far as the goalkeeping department is concerned, the summer would be the right time to offload Vicario and replace him with a reliable, safe pair of hands. Risser, in that regard, fits the bill, as evidenced by his performances in Ligue 1 this season. Meanwhile, the glovesman’s focus for the time being will be on his own performances. He would want to finish the season with Lens and, potentially, play in the World Cup.
