Tottenham are planning to fish in Brazil during the summer transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to retain their top-flight status under interim boss Igor Tudor this season.
Spurs must remain in the Premier League if they are to attract quality players to join them on a long-term basis. The club bosses must bring in reinforcements as they could go for a squad overhaul in the summer after back-to-back wretched domestic campaigns. There are several glaring issues in the squad that must be addressed before next season. Chief among them is the need for a No.9.
Dominic Solanke and Richarlison have had spells on the sidelines this season as well, while on-loan striker Randal Kolo Muani only broke his Premier League duck at the weekend in the defeat to Arsenal. And like we have seen Tottenham do time and time again, they have identified yet another name who is not yet a household name in European football but has the potential to become one in the future.
Tottenham in the race to sign Palmeiras striker
According to Brazilian journalist Diego Firmino, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Palmeiras striker Flaco Lopez ahead of the summer transfer window. Fulham and West Ham from the Premier League are also interested in the 25-year-old, while La Liga club Atletico Madrid are monitoring as well.
Palmeiras, who hold 70% of the player’s rights, are expecting an offer of €40-45m to arrive for the Flaco Lopez after the World Cup.
Flaco, a nickname from Jose Manuel Lopez’s teenage years, which means ‘skinny’ in Spanish, has impressed for Palmeiras since joining them from Lanus in 2022. The Argentine has since bagged 62 goals and 18 assists in 190 appearances for Palmeiras.
He is more than just a poacher in the box; Flaco likes to drop deep, link play, get his teammates into the game and create opportunities for them in the final third. It would not be a stretch to compare him with ex-Liverpool star Roberto Firmino thanks to not only his goal-scoring instincts, but also his playmaking brain.
Flaco could become Richarlison’s replacement
Flaco has begun the new campaign well in Brazil, notching five goals and three assists in 11 appearances. He has chiefly contributed to Palmeiras leading the Brazilian Serie A table after three games, with the centre-forward’s exploits catching the eye of several European clubs.
As far as Tottenham are concerned, they desperately need a clinical goalscorer to lead their attack next season. Whoever becomes the club’s new permanent head coach cannot rely on either Solanke or Richarlison due to their fitness issues. Recent reports suggest that the North Londoners could part ways with Richarlison at the end of the season, with the forward eyeing a move to Saudi Arabia or Turkey.
On a broader level, Flaco could very well become a replacement for Richarlison, but any summer move will depend on whether Tottenham manage to stay in the top flight or not.
