Tottenham are in a relegation battle as they languish at 16th in the PL table.

Tottenham have been enduring quite a disastrous campaign in the Premier League this season. And this underwhelming spell means that key cogs in that roster at Hotspur Way are looking to explore moves away from the English top-tier heavyweights.

And this is where top clubs from across Europe are starting to look at the Lilywhites’ assets in order to pounce on them, given that no Champions League football would push those key players to consider a move away from N17.

Atletico Madrid eye Tottenham duo

According to the recent report in Spain via. Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are considering a move for a couple of Lilywhites players as they look to take advantage of the situation at Hotspur Way. The report names Pedro Porro and Cristian Romero as two players that Atelti are looking to pounce on next summer.

Romero was heavily linked with a move to Madrid last summer, but he ended up staying at Tottenham and committing his future to N17. In the process of doing so, he also took over the captain’s armband for Tottenham. But given the campaign that the Lilywhites have endured and that sense of instability still going around, that has given opportunity for these new rumours.

Romero has looked quite unsettled this season anyway. And his lack of discipline has also come ashore, which has frustrated a lot of fans, given that he should be the glue at Hotspur Way, but it seems the other way around (at times).

That being said, given that Tottenham have him tied to a long-term contract, the North Londoners would have significant monetary demands for the 27-year-old.

Alongside Romero, Lilywhites right-back Pedro Porro is also on Atletico Madrid’s radar. Porro is someone who is capable of bringing that attacking threat from wide areas, and that adds tactical depth in its own.

But the North Londoners had invested heavily to bring Porro to Tottenham on a permanent basis, and Vinai & Co. would be under no pressure to sell the Spaniard as well. But given the difficult season that Tottenham are enduring alongside that hovering relegation, interest from a club with a consistent Champions League background can end up pushing the 26-year-old’s resolve.

If we look at this from the North Londoners’ perspective, a lot may end up depending on where Tottenham finish this season and more so on whether they can keep that Premier League status at the turn of the season.
