Journo claims Tottenham could cash in on €30m star attacker who is yet to win his place in the starting eleven

Tottenham need to make a decision on Mathys Tel’s future at N17 in the coming months.

Tottenham forward Mathys Tel has struggled for regular playing time this season. The Lilywhites chose to make his loan move permanent last summer after being impressed with his impact during the second half of the previous campaign. While the decision initially raised questions, fans believed the Frenchman possessed significant untapped potential that could be developed under Thomas Frank.

However, it is fair to say that Frank did not give Tel a consistent opportunity to make an impact at N17 during the first half of the season. Much to the surprise of Spurs supporters, the 20-year-old was left out of the Champions League squad for the group-stage fixtures. This clearly indicated that the Frenchman had fallen down the pecking order and was not receiving meaningful game time across competitions.

As a result, Tel was eager to leave the club in January in an effort to revive his career and remain in contention for Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad. The talented attacker was open to both a loan and a permanent transfer if the right opportunity arose in the winter window. However, for various reasons, the Frenchman chose to remain at N17 and outlast Thomas Frank, which he ultimately did after the manager was dismissed earlier this month.

Mathys Tel is still facing an uncertain future at Tottenham

Frank’s departure was seen as a potential turning point for Mathys Tel, as it raised hopes that he would finally receive regular opportunities in the Premier League. However, Igor Tudor’s first match in charge against Arsenal suggested that the Frenchman may still face an uphill battle. The 20-year-old was not included in the starting eleven and was only introduced late in the game, leaving him little time to make an impact.

Ryan Taylor has now suggested that Spurs could consider selling the €30m Mathys Tel if a suitable offer arrives in the summer. Writing for Football London, Taylor said,

“Mathys Tel is another player that could potentially depart if things do not improve for the French winger. A number of clubs from across Europe wanted to take him on loan in January as the ex-Bayern Munich starlet was frustrated by his lack of minutes under Thomas Frank. If things do not improve between now and the end of the season, Spurs could seek to cash in.”

It is possible that Spurs decide to cash in on Mathys Tel while his market value remains strong, especially if he continues to struggle for consistent opportunities in the Premier League. Reinvesting the funds from his potential sale could help the Lilywhites strengthen other areas of the squad. A move elsewhere could also benefit Tel, allowing him to secure regular playing time at a club competing at a higher level.

There is no doubt that Mathys Tel possesses immense talent, and he simply needs consistent minutes to showcase his abilities. Igor Tudor must find a way to reintegrate him into the squad in the coming months, as he could offer a different attacking dimension and help the club navigate their current struggles. If he manages to impress, there remains a strong possibility that he could secure a long-term future at N17 under the next permanent manager.
