The Italian left back is set for a bit more time on the sidelines amid Tottenham’s injury crisis.
Tottenham Hotspur face Fulham on Sunday without Destiny Udogie. He will miss another crucial Premier League fixture. Igor Tudor has confirmed the blow during his pre match press conference. The absentee list at Hotspur Way just keeps growing.
A miserable campaign continues for club and country
Udogie has endured a nightmare season. He has already missed 15 games across all competitions. His rhythm has been totally ruined by persistent hamstring and knee issues. With just 20 appearances, the defender has only contributed one assist. He has hardly completed 1,100 minutes on the field.
Tudor addressed the situation directly. The interim boss refused to put a strict timeline on the recovery. He insists the medical staff is taking it slow, as the absolute priority is making sure the player does not suffer an immediate relapse.
“It’s on a weekly basis. When they come, they come,” Tudor explained to reporters.
“We need to be focused on the way, also, on how they come back into the team. Also, the main important thing is that, over time, they are recovering to be in good condition so that when they come back, they are in good shape. Otherwise, it’s a problem. But we are working. This is an important part of our job.”
As per Tottenham Hotspur, Udogie is unlikely to return before mid-March. That spells major trouble for Tottenham and the Italian national team. Italy faces Northern Ireland in a massive World Cup playoff semifinal on March 26. The Azzurri are undoubtedly sweating over his fitness.
Spurs desperately need their dynamic full back on the pitch. The squad severely lacks natural width and pace without his overlapping runs. Tudor has to find a makeshift solution for Craven Cottage. Tottenham simply cannot afford to drop more points in this dismal season.
