Tottenham might need reinforcements at the back soon.
Tottenham Hotspur had been looking to bring in a defender in the winter transfer window, but no move materialised then as the Lilywhites settled without any central defensive reinforcements. But it is highly likely that the North Londoners would bring in someone at the back when the summer transfer window comes around. And this is where the links with multiple high-flying CBs across Europe come into play.
Federico Gatti to Tottenham depends on Tudor?
The latest on that rumour mill has been 27-year-old Juventus defender Federico Gatti, whose long-term future with his current employers has been among questions despite playing regularly of late. But according to a recent report from Sport Witness, any serious pursuit to sign him will end up depending on the future of Igor Tudor, who at the moment has only taken over in an interim role at N17.
Gatti only returned from a long-term layoff earlier this season, but he has seen his role demoted to more of a rotational role with his current employers. And he is not considered untouchable among the roster in Turin, so if an offer were to come in for him, it would surely be considered.
And he does have a contract at Juve till 2030, which means that they are under no immediate pressure to sell him as of now.
The Lilywhites’ interest in him ends up depending on if Tudor is appointed permanently, given that during the pair’s time in Turin, the Croatian head coach used to put a lot of trust in Gatti.
But if North Londoners decide to bring in someone else in the summer, then the Lilywhites’ pursuit for his signature may cool down.
Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit of Gatti
Alongside Tottenham, the North Londoners’ Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest are also interested in his signature. But like Tottenham, they are also in a relegation battle. But Forest are looking to confirm their Premier League survival before they fortify interest in signing Gatti.
Gatti is regarded as a pure defender given how he is physical going into duels and has that aggressiveness about him. But that being said, he is not as comfortable when it comes to a ball at his feet.
For Tottenham, though, it does make sense to keep out and finalise the head coach who is going to be at the touchline going into next summer before pushing to bring in someone like Gatti.
