£100million Tottenham star ‘waiting’ for a call from Real Madrid with Spurs struggling to extend his contract

Real Madrid are eyeing a summer move for Tottenham star Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to keep hold of their best players this summer as they look to rebuild their squad after what is heading towards another disappointing Premier League finish. However, retaining the services of their key men could prove to be an uphill task, with several stars attracting interest ahead of the summer window.

Micky van de Ven is one such player, having been Spurs’ standout performer this season. The centre-back has been consistently performing at a high level, though the same could be said about the overwhelming majority of those playing at White Hart Lane. Liverpool have shown an interest in signing the Dutchman amid Ibrahima Konate’s uncertain future.

Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on Micky van de Ven’s situation at Tottenham. The 24-year-old has rejected a contract extension offer from the Lilywhites, putting several top clubs on red alert. The Netherlands international is eager to compete at the highest level and challenge for major honours, and given the state Spurs are in, Micky van de Ven has informed the club bosses that he is open to pursuing a new challenge if the right opportunity knocks on his door in the summer.

Micky van de Ven eyeing Real Madrid switch

According to a report from Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Van de Ven is ‘waiting for a call from Real Madrid’. As the central defender still has three years to run on his contract, Spurs value him at £100million.

Van de Ven has captained the Lilywhites in the absence of Cristian Romero this season, demonstrating his leadership on top of his defensive skills. He is enjoying the most productive season of his N17 career with seven goals and an assist in 34 appearances. The Dutch star’s all-round impressive displays have not gone unnoticed in Real Madrid’s offices.

Los Blancos are planning a defensive revamp in the summer, and they have the Tottenham man high on their shortlist. Whether Real Madrid will match Tottenham’s £100 million valuation remains uncertain, particularly with Liverpool and other European clubs circling. The Spanish giants must move decisively to secure Van de Ven’s signature if they feel he is the right man to bolster their defensive backline.

Van de Ven’s willingness to join should help Madrid when it comes to negotiations. If the 17-cap Netherlands international pushes to move to Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, Spurs could then be forced to settle on a lower transfer fee than the intended £100million.

Should Tottenham manage to preserve their top-flight status, the club bosses will try their utmost best to stop Van de Ven from exiting. Without European football, though, it will be difficult to make the left-footed defender stay for another year in North London.
