Tottenham are planning to replace Guglielmo Vicario in the summer.
It appears Tottenham Hotspur have already started assessing their options for reinforcements in various areas of the pitch, even though we are yet to guarantee safety in the Premier League.
The Hotspur Way chiefs have started keeping tabs on several goalkeepers to potentially replace Guglielmo Vicario at the end of the season. Vicario has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A, with Inter Milan and Juventus keeping tabs. The 29-year-old has been heavily criticised by the fans and pundits for his lack of command in the box, inconsistency and lapses in concentration levels since arriving at the club back in 2023.
Vicario is “fully open” to joining Inter Milan at the end of the season, so Tottenham have to find a new No.1 before the 2026/27 campaign commences. Going by the recent links to new goalkeepers, all signs certainly point towards the Italian international leaving the North London club after three up-and-down seasons.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s stance on joining Tottenham emerges
Crystal Palace star Dean Henderson has emerged as a target for Spurs lately. The 28-year-old has been a strong performer for Crystal Palace since joining from Manchester United in 2023. He has made 101 appearances for the Eagles, keeping 35 clean sheets in the process.
The England international played a pivotal role in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season. Dean Henderson has been enjoying another solid season in the Premier League, which seems to have caught Tottenham’s attention. Now, the goalkeeper’s stance on leaving Palace has emerged.
According to Football Insider Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, Henderson is happy with life at Palace and has no plans to leave in the summer. The Englishman has been recently named as the Eagles’ new skipper following Marc Guehi’s winter switch to Manchester City, and the South London club will block any approaches for him from Tottenham and other clubs.
“It would take a lot, no doubt about that. Dean Henderson is crucial to that Palace project going forward,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively said on the Transfer Insider podcast (h/t Football Insider).
“He’s taken over the captaincy since the departure of Marc Guehi and really bought into that role.
“He obviously seems like he’s happy at the club as well. You see him, the way he celebrates wins and everything else that he does. Seemingly enjoying life at Crystal Palace.
“Got a great relationship with the supporters there as well, so I don’t think he’s got any intention of leaving the club any time soon.
“Dean Henderson would be somebody who could definitely go in and make an impact at Tottenham if they were to peruse their interest. But from a Palace point of view, I don’t see them letting him go easily. So, it won’t be easy for Tottenham if they do plan to make a move for Henderson.”
Tottenham must look elsewhere in their search for a new goalkeeper
Henderson’s stance on his future at Palace should come as a setback for Tottenham. The Lilywhites may test Palace’s resolve, but as Henderson does not want to leave and the club are extremely happy with his contributions, it would end in disappointment for us.
As such, finding an alternative target for the England international has to be a priority. Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu is also on the North London club’s shortlist. Atubolu has started every Bundesliga game this season, thus far, keeping five clean sheets. With just 18 months left on his contract, Tottenham must turn their attention to the Freiburg glovesman to replace Vicario.
