The teenager impressed yesterday with his second-half display against Fulham, despite a loss.
While it was a possibility that many considered unthinkable, it is now a part of reality in conversations around Hotspur Way as relegation looms around the corner at N17, especially if the performances of the team do not improve.
Yesterday we saw Spurs continue their first underwhelming campaign with yet another defeat as Fulham got better of the North Londoners, coming second best at Craven Cottage.
This relegation conversation has already got many clubs going around Tottenham’s assets as they look to pounce on signing some highly regarded players from Spurs’ roster on a discount.
While there have been rumours about Atletico Madrid eyeing a move for the Lilywhites duo Romero and Porro already, a certain Archie Gray has also come out to be a popular figure among the transfer targets out of N17.
Will Tottenham be forced to sell Archie Gray?
Football insider and senior transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke insists that the North Londoners would be forced into selling the Leeds United academy graduate given there is a real chance that Tottenham will be relegated into the Championship. He insists that Spurs would struggle to keep hold of their best players if that were to happen.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, he said:
“He’s been one of the shining lights for Tottenham in the last 12-18 months.
“Such a versatile player, he’s slotted into so many positions. Right-back, centre-back, midfield, he’s played everywhere and been a real success for Spurs.
“Obviously they’re battling relegation right now as well but I don’t think they’ll be entertaining any offers for Archie Gray.
“Only if the worst-case scenario comes through and they got relegated, then something potentially could happen.
“Tottenham are really looking ahead to the future want to keep Gray and build around him rather than allowing him to move on, despite the interest from the top European clubs.
“But if they go down, they could be forced to sell him because it will be difficult for them to keep hold of their best players.”
Archie Gray is not the only player linked with a Tottenham exit, though. Along with him, the likes of Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario are also anticipating offers going into the summer beyond the already mentioned Romero and Porro.

While Gray hasn’t had that game time under his belt in his preferred midfield role at Hotspur Way, he surely possesses that quality to make it big over the years to come. And ideally Tottenham would surely want to keep him at N17 and build the roster around him for the future, but interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid forces players to consider and reconsider.
We will see where this goes when the summer comes; for now Igor Tudor has a job to keep Tottenham in the top flight, and that continues this midweek as the North Londoners welcome Crystal Palace for another highly anticipated Premier League clash.
And when it comes to Archie Gray. He is not for sale, at least not for now. But Tottenham could be forced into a decision this summer.
