Igor Tudor’s ‘strange’ comments after Fulham defeat has ex-scout ‘seriously worried about’ Tottenham

Igor Tudor has lost his first two games as Tottenham Hotspur’s interim head coach.

Tottenham Hotspur face the serious threat of being relegated to the Championship, having failed to win in the Premier League since the turn of the year. They currently find themselves sitting in 16th place in the Premier League table, just four points above the dreaded drop zone.

Igor Tudor was brought to the club following the sacking of Thomas Frank last month, tasked with bringing some stability to the side and dragging the team away from the bottom three. The plan has not worked out so far, with Tudor losing his opening two games as the interim Tottenham boss to Arsenal and Fulham.

Spurs deserved not a single point from their trip to Fulham. They were second best in every department for the majority of the encounter at Craven Cottage. Richarlison came off the bench and scored in the 66th minute, but it turned out to be a mere consolation.

Mick Brown claims Igor Tudor comments show why Tottenham will be relegated

After the Fulham game, Igor Tudor took aim at his own players. He bemoaned the “lack of quality in attack, midfield and defence”, whilst describing the situation Spurs find themselves in as “amazing” in his press conference.

The Croat has also been critical of the squad he has inherited from Thomas Frank, expressing that his Tottenham side are not physically up to the mark at the moment to compete. Now, former Spurs scout Mick Brown thinks Tudor’s remarks on his players after the Fulham defeat has only led to chaos and a growing expectation that the Lilywhites will be relegated from the Premier League this season.

“The manager’s comments are hardly a vote of confidence,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.

“They can’t attack, their midfield isn’t working hard enough, and they can’t defend? So, in other words, they’re in big, big trouble.

“I thought it was strange of him to come out and say that because it’s not going to help anyone, it just suggests to me that he’s already resigned to defeat.

“From what I’ve seen of Tottenham lately, they don’t look like a group of players who will fight to turn around their fortunes, it’s like they don’t realise the situation.

“I think if they stay up at this stage, it’ll be because West Ham and Forest couldn’t do enough to get ahead of them, rather than dragging themselves out of it. If the manager keeps talking the way he has been, I would be seriously worried about Tottenham.”

Igor Tudor wants to see more from his Tottenham players

Whatever the Tottenham players have displayed across the two games has not been enough. Tudor was unhappy after defeats to Arsenal and Fulham as he clearly wants to see more quality, fight, hunger and desire from his players. The 47-year-old’s passionate rant after Sunday’s game showed he actually cares about the club.

It must be noted that our interim boss is working in a volatile environment. Two defeats in his first two matches have only intensified scrutiny and pressure on Tudor. It is high time our players understand the situation the club are in and bring more to the pitch.

Of course, getting players back from injury would help, but the ones available now must take responsibility and help Spurs negotiate an extremely perilous situation.
