Turkish club are planning to make a move for Tottenham star in the summer.
Full focus right now at Tottenham Hotspur is keeping the club in the Premier League. Ahead of Thursday’s London derby against Crystal Palace, Spurs find themselves 16th in the table, as they look to avoid the unthinkable under interim boss Igor Tudor.
There are likely to be major changes in the Tottenham squad, no matter which league they find themselves in next season. Relegation from the top flight would necessitate a squad overhaul, as several players would not want to waste a year of their careers in the Championship. The injury crisis at White Hart Lane has exposed the lack of squad depth, which is why summer transfer recruitment will be extremely crucial.
However, amid the Lilywhites’ struggles to stay with the big boys, several players have unsurprisingly been linked with an exit. The obvious names are Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. The first-choice centre-back pairing have been attracting interest mainly from La Liga ahead of the summer transfer window.
Now, another Tottenham star has been linked with an exit from N17.
Pape Matar Sarr wanted by Fenerbahce
According to an exclusive report from Africa Foot, Fenerbahce are set to make an attempt to sign Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr. The Senegalese international has become one of Fenerbahce’s priority targets ahead of the summer window.
Last summer, the Turkish club attempted to sign Yves Bissouma from Spurs, but a move did not materialise. Now, they’ve shifted their focus to Bissouma’s Tottenham teammate in a bid to bolster their midfield unit ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. However, Fenerbahce could face competition from their direct rivals, Galatasaray, for Pape Matar Sarr’s signature, with the Istanbul giants having approached the player’s entourage.
Sarr has been a part of the Tottenham squad since joining from French club FC Metz in 2022. In three seasons, he has grown into an important player for the Lilywhites, netting 11 goals and supplying 10 assists in 132 appearances in all competitions. The 23-year-old played a key role in the club winning the Europa League last season, with his cross being prodded home by Brennan Johnson in the final against Manchester United.
Under contract until 2030, Tottenham are not in any rush to part ways with Sarr, whose work ethic, running power and combative nature make him such a valuable player for the club. However, should the North Londoners decide to sell the rising Senegal star, they would get a solid fee in the summer.
The report adds that Tottenham could sell the central midfielder to the highest bidder, and the possibility of that happening will only increase if they end up in the Championship. If the Lilywhites happen to beat the drop under Igor Tudor, the club bosses must do everything possible to keep hold of Sarr.
At 23, Sarr is still relatively young and has the potential to develop into a strong midfielder. Giving up on him after just one substandard season would be purely illogical, although the African talent may be tempted to join either Fenerbahce or Galatasaray to play in the Champions League.
