43-year-old who’s already managed four Italian teams emerges as option to replace Igor Tudor at Tottenham

Igor Tudor’s future at Tottenham is already uncertain after just three weeks.

Despite being in charge for just three games at Tottenham Hotspur, Igor Tudor is under immense pressure already.

The Croatian has failed to turn the tide after replacing Thomas Frank at the helm last month. The 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace has left his side just one point above the dreaded drop zone. Overall, Tottenham are winless in 11 Premier League games, and the abject loss to Crystal Palace in midweek has left the fans fearing for the worst.

With tough fixtures against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Brighton, Aston Villa and Chelsea to come in the next weeks, the Lilywhites are deemed as favourites to get relegated by former boss Harry Redknapp. The Tottenham board is still backing Igor Tudor to weave his magic and get the team out of the mess, but given how his first three games panned out, his position at the club appears untenable.

Thiago Motta emerges as a shock candidate to replace Igor Tudor

The North London outfit find themselves navigating yet another period of managerial uncertainty. Reports suggest the key decision-makers in N17 are already weighing their options for a second managerial change within a month, after Tudor’s abject failure to spark a renaissance in fortunes.

Now, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Thiago Motta has emerged as one of the candidates to manage Tottenham if Tudor is sacked. The ex-Juventus tactician is already on Spurs’ list of potential options, which also includes Sean Dyche, Ryan Mason, Robbie Keane and Roberto De Zerbi.

Interestingly, Tudor was chosen as the man to replace Thiago Motta at Juventus last March following a series of bad results. Tudor went on to do well as a caretaker boss and helped Juventus clinch Champions League football on the final day of the 2024/25 season. He was subsequently handed the permanent role at Old Lady, but within two months of the 2025/26 campaign, the Croat was sacked by Juventus.

Coming back to Motta, he did not last the full year with Juventus after a summer of heavy spending and a series of underwhelming displays thereafter. The Turin giants had been impressed with the Italian’s work at Bologna, whom he guided to Champions League qualification by the end of the 2023/24 season. But, he just could not deal with the pressure of managing one of the biggest clubs in Italian football and lost his job midway through the campaign. Besides these, he’s also managed two other Italian clubs – Genoa and Spezia.

Tottenham cannot afford to repeat the same mistake

Fans, pundits and several media outlets were left wondering when Tottenham announced the hiring of Tudor to save the ship from sinking last month. Without any experience of managing a Premier League side, it was a mega gamble taken by the Lilywhites board, and unfortunately for our supporters, that decision has backfired.

With the board now contemplating Tudor’s future, it’d be extremely irrational if they decide to sack him next week and replace the Croatian with Motta. Highly rated in Europe, Motta, however, would represent another punt from the club. During this perilous situation, the Hotspur Way chiefs simply have to go for a Premier League-proven manager with the experience of rescuing a club from relegation, if they decide to make a second change in the dugout this season.
