Former Tottenham hero likely for third stint at N17 should Igor Tudor get the boot.
Tottenham Hotspur are in horrendous form, failing to win any Premier League game in 2026 and on an 11-game barren run. They sit 16th in the Premier League table, just one point above the bottom three with nine games of the season to be played.
Following their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, the gap to the relegation zone has come down to just a point. While Spurs are finding it extremely difficult to get any positive results for some time now, their relegation rivals, West Ham and Nottingham Forest, have been picking up points here and there. This has ramped up the pressure on interim boss Igor Tudor after just three games in charge of the club.
The calls have become louder to sack Igor Tudor after the demoralising Crystal Palace defeat. Tottenham decided to stick with the big Croat for now. However, should Tudor fail to turn around their recent form and suffer further defeats, the North London club bosses will be looking for a new manager sooner than anybody expected.
Ryan Mason emerges as a candidate to replace Tudor at Tottenham
Tottenham would turn towards another short-term managerial role if they decide to part ways with Tudor. As such, an exclusive report from Football Insider claims Ryan Mason would be the leading candidate to take over from the 47-year-old until the end of the season.
Ryan Mason is viewed as a ‘good fit’, thanks to his previous experience of managing Tottenham in caretaker spells. The Englishman has held the interim role in N17 on two previous occasions, in 2021 and 2023, winning six and losing six of his 13 games in charge, including the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City after Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
The 34-year-old ended his long-term association with boyhood club Tottenham last summer to take the reins at West Brom in the Championship. It was Mason’s first permanent managerial gig, which unsurprisingly he could not turn down. However, things went downhill after a decent start to the Championship campaign. A dismal run of four losses in five games led to his sacking from West Brom in the first week of January.
Despite his recent sacking from his first managerial role at Championship side West Brom, Mason is among the potential options to come in and save the club from sinking. Veteran bosses Harry Redknapp, Glenn Hoddle and Tim Sherwood also remain in the frame, the report adds.
Mason would be another gamble for Tottenham
Coming back to Mason, he knows the club inside and out, enjoys respect within the Spurs dressing room and has previously stepped in as caretaker manager. However, during both his caretaker stints, the Lilywhites did not find themselves in a relegation battle. The English tactician was brought in to steady the ship, bring smiles back to the fans’ faces, and improve the atmosphere in the dressing room, and he fulfilled those objectives.
Now, the situation at White Hart Lane is graver. Spurs have already made a big blunder by appointing Tudor as Frank’s replacement, and the hierarchy now cannot make another mistake. Mason would be another gamble, despite his know-how of the club, and the N17 chiefs must only go for an experienced tactician who has been successful in helping clubs maintain their top-flight status.
