Tottenham are ready to offload Micky van de Ven in the summer amid European interest.
It was another night to forget for Tottenham Hotspur last week, with relegation now a genuine possibility. The defeat to Crystal Palace means they lie one point above the relegation zone and have not won in their last 11 Premier League matches.
To make things worse, they were hammered 5-2 by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, with Van de Ven’s defensive woes among the highlights.
With the club needing to balance the books and fund a massive rebuild under a new permanent head coach, the sale of valuable assets is seen as a financial necessity. The North Londoners are reportedly prepared to make massive sales if their respective valuations are met, as part of changing the culture and environment of the club.
Micky van de Ven is among those players the club are willing to listen to offers for. The centre-back is widely expected to leave Spurs this summer. When fit, the Netherlands international has been a standout performer for the Lilywhites since he arrived from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023. However, the 24-year-old’s performance levels have dipped in recent months, while some of his behaviour has raised eyebrows.

According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Tottenham have slapped a £70million price tag on Micky van de Ven amid interest from European bigwigs.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool are all interested in the Dutch star, who is expected to move on from Tottenham, regardless of Tottenham staying in the Premier League or not. The lack of European football is set to be one of the prime factors for his potential exit from N17. Van de Ven is under contract at White Hart Lane until 2029, but that will make little difference should he push to leave Spurs, who are undoubtedly staring at a difficult summer.
Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke says Van de Ven’s £70million could prove too steep for Real Madrid and Barcelona, potentially handing Liverpool a clear run for his signature during the summer transfer window. The Hotspur Way chiefs are hopeful of getting a fair price, but it could have consequences if the club goes down to the Championship.
“Yeah, if Tottenham don’t qualify for Europe, some of their best players will be looking to play in European competition,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively told Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast.
“It’s no surprise that other clubs are monitoring his situation. Barcelona have been strongly linked with a potential move in Spain. But again, there’s a few difficulties for any potential move in that respect because we know Barcelona’s ongoing financial situation.
“With three years left in his contract, you would imagine Tottenham would be looking in excess of £60million to £70million for somebody like Van de Ven.
“Real Madrid have also been linked and Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Van de Ven as well.
“If Spurs were to get relegated, you would imagine Van de Ven would be among a number of players who’d be seeking a move out of Tottenham, and that price tag might drop. They won’t be able to afford to keep him, and the defender won’t be keen to stick around, so there are a number of clubs who will be interested.”
Van de Ven’s time at Tottenham coming to an end
It is evident that Van de Ven is desperate for a change of scenery. The centre-back, who played a key role in helping the Lilywhites claim the Europa League title last season, certainly has suitors in the Premier League and across Europe, and is too good when fully fit and firing. No wonder he is among the first names on the team sheet for Spurs and rated as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, thanks to his quality in both boxes.
The Dutch star’s future at Tottenham appears uncertain at the moment. It is unlikely that the 24-year-old would consider extending his stay at N17, even though he has three more years to run on his contract. Given the lack of ambition from the owners and the state the club finds itself in, a move away from Tottenham appears as the most realistic option for Van de Ven, having recently rebuffed a new contract offer from the club.
