Tottenham are hoping to appoint a permanent successor to Thomas Frank in the coming months.
Tottenham decided to sack Thomas Frank midway through this season after it became clear that the Danish tactician had run out of ideas to bring the best out of his players at N17. Frank failed to live up to his promise of competing hard on all fronts, with the Lilywhites getting knocked out of both domestic cup competitions as well as being left stranded in the bottom half of the Premier League table. The decision to relieve him of his duties seemed to be the right call in the end.
But to everyone’s surprise, the North Londoners decided to appoint Igor Tudor as Frank’s temporary successor. The Croat arrived at N17 on an interim basis until the end of the season. His task was to stabilise the environment at Hotspur Way and keep Spurs away from the relegation zone in the Premier League. And it is fair to suggest that Tudor has clearly failed to achieve any of that after losing his opening four matches in charge of the Lilywhites.
There is a strong possibility that Spurs decide to sack Igor Tudor as well before they lose any realistic chance of escaping relegation. The main priority for the club is to maintain its top-flight status this season before they start looking for a permanent successor to Thomas Frank. The business end of the season will clearly determine who the Lilywhites could appoint, as their place in the Premier League currently seems to be under threat.
Tottenham keen to hire Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola in the summer
It comes as no surprise that Tottenham are already preparing a succession plan once they confirm their Premier League status in the coming months. The Lilywhites are not going to continue with Igor Tudor and there is a strong possibility that a new manager will take the helm once the club escapes the threat of relegation. The North Londoners are hoping to bring in a manager who understands and preserves the values of the club.
As per The i Paper, Spurs are monitoring Andoni Iraola’s situation at Bournemouth. The Lilywhites tried hiring the Spaniard last summer after keeping tabs on him for a long time. But the club decided to opt for Thomas Frank instead, putting an end to any chances of luring Iraola to N17. The Lilywhites are clearly impressed with Iraola’s impact at Bournemouth and believe that he is the right man for the job at Hotspur Way.
However, the same report also states that Spurs might need to fend off competition for Andoni Iraola’s services. Both Manchester United and Crystal Palace are keen to hire the Spanish tactician on a permanent basis in the summer. With Oliver Glasner leaving Selhurst Park in the coming months and Michael Carrick’s tenure at Old Trafford coming to an end in the summer, it seems like both clubs might go all out to secure Iraola’s signature.
Bournemouth have enjoyed a successful season under Andoni Iraola’s guidance. The Spaniard has got the best out of his players and managed to make the most of the squad he has available. His teams play free-flowing, attacking football and rely heavily on quick transitions. That is exactly what Spurs are looking for as they have the perfect personnel to operate in that system.
Given what happened to Thomas Frank after he made the jump from Brentford to Spurs, it is fair to say that the risk of appointing Andoni Iraola is substantially high. The prolific manager has not tested himself at a big club, and making the switch to North London might not be as easy as it sounds. So, fans will hope that the Spaniard is ready for the challenge and brings the best out of his players if he ends up coming to N17 in the coming months.
