Tottenham might look at other alternatives in the market as Bundesliga man snubs N17 move.
Tottenham are going through a difficult period right now, with the club stranded in the bottom half of the Premier League table. The Lilywhites are determined to avoid relegation and preserve their top-flight status this season before turning their attention to targeting top players for next year. There is an urgent need to strengthen the squad in the summer if the North Londoners are to compete at the top end of the table.
There are several glaring issues within the squad that must be addressed once the current season concludes. Chief among them is the lack of a box-to-box midfielder. Spurs failed to sign a natural #8 during the winter window, even after it became evident that there was a need for a player capable of making an impact at both ends of the pitch. The Lilywhites did sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal, but the England international has yet to find his footing at N17.
From an outside perspective, the North Londoners are clearly missing a strong presence in the middle of the park. They need a player who can drop deep and anchor the midfield alongside Joao Palhinha, whilst also surging forward to get on the end of attacking moves. They are lacking a player with quick passing ability who can also cover long distances across the pitch with ease.
Tottenham all set to miss out on Dortmund star Felix Nmecha
Tottenham need to be proactive in the upcoming summer transfer window if they are to close the gap on their rivals next season. The ongoing injury crisis at N17 means the Lilywhites might have to reinvest a portion of their transfer budget in a new midfielder in the coming months. With Yves Bissouma heading for the exit doors once his contract expires, it becomes clear that the North Londoners will need to find a suitable replacement in the summer.
Recent reports linked Spurs with Dortmund star Felix Nmecha. The German international is enjoying an impressive spell at the Signal Iduna Park and had been heavily monitored by the Lilywhites in recent weeks. The report also stated that Dortmund had set an asking price of €70m for his services if they were to part ways with the player, as the Bundesliga giants aim to secure financial stability in the summer.
However, it now appears that the 25-year-old has decided to snub Spurs as the transfer saga reaches an abrupt dead end. As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), Nmecha has signed a new long-term deal with Dortmund until June 2030. The Bundesliga giants never had any intention of losing their key player and have ensured that he snubs a move to N17 in order to help Dortmund qualify for Champions League football next season.
Spurs must now switch their focus to alternative targets instead. The Lilywhites need to ensure they bring in a player who can immediately form a strong partnership with Conor Gallagher and Archie Gray in the middle of the park. With James Maddison still recovering from an ACL injury, it appears the North Londoners will have to allocate part of their transfer budget toward signing a new midfielder once the transfer window opens.
Will we see the Lilywhites make a move for top-quality players in the summer? Only time will tell. But fans will hope that Spurs remain proactive in the transfer window and do their best to lure top talents to N17 in the coming months.
